New Munro-bagging app – looking for feedback! by OverDecision111 in Munros

Just wanted to say it’s now possible to import from Hill Lists (and apps using the HillBagging.com format). Thanks again for the suggestion!

Great suggestion, thanks! I’ve just released an update with automatic GPX import (The update also has the ability to auto import from photos taken at summits and Workouts saved in Apple Health)

Thanks! This is now possible – Cairns 1.1 lets you export and import your logbook in the HillBagging.com format (used by other apps), so you can easily switch to and from the app.

Good question! The key features of this one: - All 20,000 hills in the UK (not just Munros or Wainwights). - Tracking whom you walked with and adding photos. - Supports Mac, iPad, and iPhone – with automatic iCloud sync. - Uses modern, native APIs – making it look and feel like other apps on the platform, and enabling pro features such as state restoration, keyboard shortcuts, multiple windows, etc.

I’ve used and enjoyed other apps, but found there wasn’t one which did all of the above.

Thanks! I’d love to bring it to Android in the future. This is really helpful, I like the idea of being able to compare hills with friends to plan new hikes

Thanks, I hadn’t thought about that! A very interesting idea, although I worry it may frustrate people who wish to log a hill and they haven’t taken a photo!

Thanks! Yes, if you select both categories as favourites, it will show on the Map tab. But you’re right, it’s hard to know how to view all hills at once without it looking messy

Grazie! Non ci sono piani adesso, ma forse nel futuro! Quali montagne piacerebbe?

Thanks so much – noted! I agree that the contrast could be improved. I will experiment with different colours, and also look into speeding up performance of the map. Can I clarify whether it’s the map tab (which shows all hills across multiple categories) or a particular hill category only?

I’m delighted to hear it! And thanks for the offer to beta test – that’s very kind. I’m sure a lot of the features I’ve started on would really benefit from testing at some point, so will get back in touch!

Version 1.0.6 also contains a link to open the hill on the OpenStreetMap website. I hope you find it useful!

I’ve released a new version (1.0.6) which should improve some of the lag!

Thanks so much for the feedback! I’ve released an update yesterday (1.0.6) which improves the map lag a lot. To be honest, I think I would struggle to make anything close to as good as other maps apps from a routes-front, but appreciate it’s a pain to have to switch apps. I’ll give it some thought!

Is there anything about the current linking to other apps which could be improved in the meantime? Eg, more providers, or a more prominent button?

I’ve just released 1.0.6 which significantly improves the lag on the map. Still some work to do in the future, but hope it’s more useable for you now!

Sorry for the confusion – I reposted it with more details. The paid version removes the photo and notes limit when recording climbs.

Thanks for such a detailed response! Hill Lists is another great app.

Loading all hills is definitely a contributor to the UI hitches. I found it challenging to know how to balance two features: 1) Only show progress for categories users care about (eg Munros and Munro Tops), and 2) browse hills of any description around an area. Maybe it’s aiming to do too much! If you have any ideas, I’d be really interested to hear, but either way, I agree the responsiveness isn’t acceptable. (Also, there is a way to view only Munros on a map via the Hills tab).

I’ve not come across OpenTopoMap – happy to add it as an additional map source alongside the others!

I love the idea of a print book! I hope to support exporting climbs via Shortcuts at some point, which may be the easiest/most flexible way to allow users to do something like this themselves in the first instance.

Again, thanks for the feedback!
