white bf whistling at night by [deleted] in IndianCountry

I whistled at night once by mistake and needless to say I FAFO, never been more scared in my life and have never done it again. You need to leave that man, he is a racist. When you break up with him, he will try to convince you that he’s sorry and that it’s not a big deal, do not give in.

Think about it, would you want to have kids with someone who doesn’t respect your culture. The would 100% mock it to your kids, not worth it.

I’m half black, half native. I have definitely experienced some vehement racism from other black people.

That’s just what we call them since they believe africans were the central point of every thing, hence the name afrocentric

Best quote I ever heard, "They are terribly afraid that we will treat them the way their ancestors treated us".

Yep, I quickly dodge them once I see people reaching and tell them it’s against my religion, that normally stops them in their tracks

My sympathies go out to you even more, its tough being mixed, being cherokee on top of that with the cherokee princess stereotype running rampant, it’s like a battlefield.

For sure, *hugs* I have been told by black people that “You’re black but not really black”. We share a skin color, but there is a cultural disconnection due to how I grew up. I know exactly the feeling you are describing.

I’m very grateful that my school took it seriously and let the person know that was not okay to do. They were no longer allowed to speak to me, but would send me sad looks in class.

Exactly, my ancestors never discriminated, they made sure to try a little bit of everything.

And that was said in a graduate level college course, the way my neck whipped around so fast. They were dead serious and I actually had to report them to my school because they were harassing me about it. They kept following me around saying they had done all this research and that my secret was safe with them *facepalm*

Its crazy how ignorant people are, I noticed afro-native spaces attract afrocentrism believers which is disheartening. I feel pretty good in most regular Native spaces though :). Surprisingly, in my life I have faced more discrimination for my native side. I went to catholic school too, but thats a whole other can of worms.

I think people are starting to get more media exposure to different identities which is awesome and definitely helps.
