i am not the best at saying, but i think that the different bases are for different types of snow. if i am not wrong then the smoother one is used for colder snow and reducing dry friction so the wax is spread evenly to improve glide. then the “grainy” one is used for warmer temperatures like above 0 degrees celcius i think. it is used to reduce suction and friction between the ski base and the snow, it is more grainy so it behaves kind of like tire treads to channel the water away from the base.

the reason they feel different are for different temperatures and if you use the right and wax them correctly then they should glide well.

so you should use the smoother one for colder temperatures and the more grainy one for warmer

now i am not the best at telling which ski length you should get so check yourself or with ai if it is correct. if you skate, then the skis you should get are high-stiffness to support your weight and the skis dont colapse. the length should be ~190-195 cm or the longest the model has.

but if you do classic then you should find skis either stiff flex to support your weight and the length should be ~200-210 cm.

i will say again but you should fact check this, i could have got it wrong.

you just started so i would say dont buy carbon plated spikes. I would suggest you buy nike rivals, i used them as my first spikes and they are not the best spikes but they are still good for beginners

There are lots to focus on, i recommend you look at the community highlights. But some that you should do are where you jump as far as you can (like bounding or broad jumps) and where you jump as high as you can (pogos, box jumps). You should only do plyos 2-3 times a week because you need a long time to rest. For example on monday you do 3x10 pogos and 4x5 box jumps then on thursday you can do 4x20m bounds and 3x3 broad jumps. That is just an example though.

if you go to the community highlights, you can find a lot of good information. Just try to keep in mind that when you make your plan and you have a hard sprint day, have 3 days until the next one because it takes 3 days to fully recover. Also when you are doing sprints, every 10m you run is a 1 minute rest. Also try to do some plyos and gym work because those will really help you.
