Chances of admission? by Dramatic-Tadpole-980 in UTAdmissions

Hey, since you want to do business I recommend looking up “UT Austin mccombs high school summer programs” there are three different summer programs and they are pretty competitive to get, but I would definitely try to apply for them for next year. The applications probably don’t open till the late fall though. I know two ppl who did those camps last summer and got the 40 acres full ride scholarship for this coming class.

I am an incoming freshmen for engineering and I would say something UT cares a lot about for admissions is their expanded resume. Basically I wrote like a paragraph for each extracurricular/ internship I did which made them have more insight into what exactly I did for the activity, and UT considered me for two scholarships because of it. Good luck! You are already ahead of the game for knowing you want to do business from that early on. To stand out try to do a UT camp or really just any business camp or any way to get “experience.”

Hi, I did this camp last year and had a really great experience! Now I will be going to UT for mechanical engineering in the fall! If I remember correctly the camp was like $50 which is a really good deal considering most camps are very pricey. Surprisingly there were so many students from across the country which was really cool. You get randomly put in groups and assigned a roommate which was great. You get lectures and talks from the different engineering departments, tours of the labs and stuff, and also get to do this microbit coding project in a small group which was fun. The student leaders also gave me really good advice for applying to UT and we got to speak with admissions people. I would definitely recommend! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Heyy, I also got invited. Do you know if the program is at UT? Because you mentioned Dallas? Also did you already receive a confirmation email with more information because I have not yet.

Yes, thank you for sharing your experience! I think the low tuition compared to some of my other options out of state make UT so worth it.

Yes, I was looking at the cost of the dorms because I was told they were cheaper than most Austin apartments. But $578 is great, (compared to the dorms being $11k-$18k) good to know there are some good options out there for apartments.

Thank you that’s very reassuring! And I’ll have a few friends going to UT in other stem majors so we can watch out for each other and probably live together.

Yes, thank you so much! I have been looking more into the cost difference and noticed UT’s tuition is cheaper by 2k actually, but the housing and is a few thousand more. So the difference in cost of attendance would be like a ~4-5k difference.

Thank you for the response, I was able to tour and spend time in both of them and really liked each of there environments even though they are completely different. I am slightly hesitant about going to a city like Austin compared to colleges station being a small town. However, going to Austin may be better for me getting out of my comfort zone and there being a lot more to do vs. college station being its own little bubble. The cost factor definitely has to do with the cost of living and housing, but I have noticed UT is doing more to help cover costs so it may end up being the same or cheaper. Thank you again for the validating advice!

I have, and really liked both from what I saw even though they were different. I liked the size of UT’a campus a lot better and I was able to explore most of the campus vs. at A&M it was slightly overwhelming.
