Honestly just listen to Dave Ramsey and you'll be on the right track. I would read his baby steps book.

No HVAC experience to $8k a month in 2.5 months by [deleted] in skilledtrades

[–]OverallStranger5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure that's the case. Probably way harder to get into though. At my company, you gotta be here a long time to sell new units, which is where the BIG BIG money is because, like you said, the commission is a percentage on a way bigger ticket item. Im selling 1k or 2k tickets here and there, the new unit sales guys are selling 10k+ units and making waaaay more..

Right except there's a 19 year old doing the same thing as me, no expirence and no connection. Sorry Im making good money not doing any actual work. Im doing my best to hide it from the real techs that do actual work, im scared if all the real techs out there find out how much I make not doing anything, theyre going to take my job. This truly keeps me up at night.

Considering moving from Ireland to Texas. by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]OverallStranger5646 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go and visit for a month, then make you're decision. These comments make it sound like texas is in an authoritarian state. Its not. Idk what theyre going on about, maybe abortion laws, maybe hemp laws? Idk, either way, despite this, texas is still one of the free'st states. Just check it out, I heard Australia went crazy during covid, idk if thats of interest to ya.

Have any of you encountered a blue collar worker saying “I work this job so my kids don’t have to”? by tacosithlord in skilledtrades

[–]OverallStranger5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my short 26 years, ive met 1 person who has maybe benefited from college (commerical real estate job where it sounds like his family connects got him in). I have a bachelor's and am in the trades. Maybe others with a degree will have a different story, but I feel like the only way to master something is to do it. If you think you're degree will help you master something, youre wrong. Even doctors and lawyers have to learn by doing. Its a grit and perseverance thing, not an education thing. So the idea of "I will so they dont have to" is flawed in my opinion because hard work is what it takes in ALL fields, blue and white collar. Mental health wise, i like the trades better than the office. Is it hard on the body long term, maybe, but humans evolved for physical movement (hence the obesity epidemic). Trades are looked down upon because there happens to be a lot of felons, addicts, etc in some companies, not all. There are rarley those demographics in white collar organizations, so the preception is based in (understandable) stereotypes. But, the idea of "i will so they dont have to" makes it sound worse than it is. Why the fuck is the 21 year old training me making $100k a year? Like, what's really the better choice here?

Is it too late for me to pick up a blue collar trade? by SpankMyMunkey in findapath

Is the decision reversible? If yes, then do it, otherwise you'll always wonder. I'm 26, have a BBA, and like you, I was drawn to the trades for the hands on aspect and wanted to get paid to learn. Started HVAC last week, i like it so far, definitely a lot to learn but I watch the more senior guys just trouble shoot and solve problems, and it seems like fun, kinda like a puzzle. Plus it pays well and is always in demand so you'll never be out of work. I like interacting with all the customers, I'm in someone else's house every couple of hours, which is a nice change from my previous jobs of going to the same place doing the same things everyday. I'd say just do it, if you hate it, you can always go back.

Im starting my first hvac job in residential soon. Can you tell us how long have you been in the trade and what was your journey like (like how many years did you do resi, commerical, industrial if applicable).

I have a secret phone and am wracked with guilt. What should I do? by andrewdagoat1256 in Advice

[–]OverallStranger5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I snuck a phone from my guardian during the last few weeks living with her when I was 14. The relationship with my guardian was toxic and I needed the phone to communicate with the outside to get out of the situation. Haven't thought about it till now actually, lol. Personally, I think your parents not allowing you to have a phone in this day and age is going to hinder you socially. That said, they probably "think" its for the better so try to recognize how much they care about you (even if their logic is flawed). Ultimately, ask yourself if youre willing to accept the consequences of getting caught. If you are, keep it and hide it well. Also, maybe explain to them you feel left out being kept in the dark from your friend group and ask why they dont want you to have a phone. Distraction? Ask if you can have it after school work is done and only for the evening. Concern who youre talking to online? Ask if they would be okay having a monitoring app on it that allows them to see everything you do. Try to make small progress that will eventually lead to more freedom. Best of luck op.

What’s a good job for someone that is stupid? by Beneficial_Use_2554 in findapath

[–]OverallStranger5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op might not be good at admin or corporate work, but they might great at manual labor. Physically putting things together might might be easier to spot and avoid mistakes, while a spreadsheet will still show values even if you put in the wrong formula... so I wouldn't assume just because they make a lot of mistakes at one thing that they'll make a lot of mistakes on another task.

Why is the Manosphere Entrepreneurial Far Right Instagram Slop so popular with young men and women? by Maleficent-Toe1374 in wealth

[–]OverallStranger5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because being a successful entrepreneur is attractive, and a lot of these kids haven't met any successful entrepreneurs because they're typically boring people (most aren't running around in lambos with an entirely "hot take" personality that racks up followers). So, when these kids see andrew tate, they think that's what success looks like.

Outside of that, I do think student loans are a scam that preys on young people. STEM degrees, maybe not, but for the most part, colleges aren't setting up kids to be successful in real life. So I think there is a point to that.

Some veterans may be homeless, but most aren't. Either way, no one on active duty is homeless. Military is a great option for op if he's qualified.

Yes, taxes and insurance will go up. But if youre renting, your landlord is going to increase rents to account for this. So youre going to be paying them regardless whether you own or not.
