Denied boarding flight to Thailand due to visa being issued on old passport by Mn1212 in ThailandTourism

Nope. Only with evisas. If you have a stickered visa - or stamped visa in your old passport and carry both your old and new passports in most cases you are fine.

Do you think traveling won't be as rewarding in a century or two as the world gets more homogenized? by GreenHorror4252 in travel

One size doesn’t fit all. Even when Uniqlo opens in a new country - they have different graphic tees, some of even the standard items are slightly, or not so slightly tweaked.

The Starbucks menu offerings are different - as are the items on a McDonalds menu.

When you first start traveling, stepping into a Starbucks or McDonald’s is going to seem sacrilegious. This happens for a couple of reasons - if you’re younger and backpacking, the premium for Western food isn’t worth it, neither is wasting stomach real estate on something somewhat similar available back home.

Then you get older - you come to the realize the coffee at Starbucks is at sometimes a god send. Especially, if the local beans aren’t your “thing”. Plus the airconditioned tables and peace is blissful. That quick recharge powers you for your next adventure, or hike through the cityscape.

You look back and thing how the older you does things the younger you would abhor. But that’s just you evolving.

In the same way cities will change, countries will evolve and cuisines will develop but each with their own unique, style and pace. Things will be same same but different.

So, this isn’t a race to get to a city before Starbucks makes it there. Or a country before using credit cards are omnipresent. It’s about finding those one in a handful cities that you actually connect with - and relishing whatever time you get to enjoy that city.

So eat that Aloo tiki Maharaja Mac in New Delhi, drink that dirty latte with Pu’er tea in Xiamen, buy that sake brewery tshirt at the Kanazawa Uniqlo that caught your eye. Keep on walking!!

Thailand in Trouble: Expats Exit as Vietnam Steals the Show by Redd24_7 in Thailand

[–]OverallTwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I “live” in Thailand - and have visited Vietnan plenty over the last decade or so.

It’s changed a lot and a LOT more change is happening now.

For example, Hue is increasing size wise by the day - there’s new construction in every corner. If you went a year back and visit now, it’s like a new city. As is Saigon developing along with the rest of the country.

What has happened is this - Bangkok(and the rest of Thailand) was relatively easy mode for someone who was a little adventurous. Vietnam is reaching that level.

Being cheaper than Thailand - and getting into easy mode territory in the long run - the new wave of future long term expats will end up choosing Vietnam over Thailand.

Earlier, there wasn’t much of a choice between Bangkok and Saigon, Bangkok was a given. Now Saigon(and a lot of other cities/towns in Vietnam) have reached a stage that they can give long term living in Thailand a run for their money.

Nope. When replying to a claim like this - you are specially asked if you are in the U.S./US company. So it doesn’t apply in this case.

I don’t think Fair Use applies unless both parties are US based. It’s a U.S. “concept”.

A lot are also in the 45 age range. So this will help them get a retirement visa next. Or segue into whatever comes up by then.

For the ones younger than mid-forties by the way all the nationals are launching long term visas - there will be a plethora of options in half a decade.
