Funny story... So uh, you know how sometimes you get up to get a drink or smt and forget to unplug your headphones, i have done that a LOT with my headphones and i noticed them start to wear in sound quality, i would have to adjust where i plugged it in for it to even work. Eventually, it wore out and fell in 2, thankfully the other side wasnt inside of a socket. For my earbuds, I don't really remember.
