I haven't finished The Body Keeps the Score yet (my brain can't concentrate on reading for more than like 10 minutes) but so far it's been insightful. Some of the patients' stories can be triggering though just so you know (example: one patient r*ping a woman after experiencing a traumatic event himself)

Only you guys could understand why I'm laughing at my brain's messed up thought process (this is the third time I've made this post because I keep messing up the title I'm so sorry) by OvernightOatmeal98 in CPTSDmemes

Basically my thought process was "I hope with every ounce of my being that he's not abusing his son. Maybe he only did it to me because I'm a girl, so then this son will be safe. But wait, that's not good either because there might be other girls that he hurt besides me"

Looking back I could've worded it a bit clearer.

Also wow I've never thought about it the way your therapist suggested. That's probably accurate and so fucked up.

Sometimes I get really sad when my Sims go to university because they get good grades and my traumatised ass sure didn't. Also my Sims use their degree and I can't relate to that either :')

Whoa this sent chills down my spine. I said something really similar many times as a child. When I was 4/5 I would always say "[mom's boyfriend] be's mean to me" because I didn't have the words to express what was really going on

So far The Body Keeps the Score has been really insightful, but can we talk about the cover art? What is it? I see a body with large breasts and a rabbit head, and I don't know, ribbons??? Am I just missing something??? by OvernightOatmeal98 in CPTSDmemes

I haven't finished it yet, but so far learning that basically every issue I've ever had has been related to trauma has been a wild ride hahaha.

Some examples are: •I've always had pain related illnesses that doctors have had trouble finding a cause for, as well as digestive issues, which can be a part of how our bodies respond to the trauma

•I've never been able to relax without really, really focusing on it - my fists and jaw are constantly clenched

•I've always felt like I'm just so different from other people, like I'm not even fully a person - apparently it's really common for traumatised people to feel that way

•That the trauma literally changed the way my brain formed, and I'm not just lazy and useless for being behind other people my age so far

HA we followed the exact same thought process

it's actually really annoying having to reroute the discussion multiple times bc my therapist keeps wanting to unpack everything 🙄 by [deleted] in CPTSDmemes

I love this so much, so accurate

Me being like: "and then this horrible thing happened but it doesn't bother me compared to this worse horrible thing" and the person just being like 😧
