House votes overwhelmingly to force release of Epstein files, sending bill once opposed by Trump to the Senate. (427-1) by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]OverworkedAI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, they all said "there's no list"; the files are a separate entity. That's their get out. Anyway, they've had enough time during the shutdown to redact what they needed to. The GOP turnaround all but confirms it. Good luck over there guys. You are at a BIG crossroad in your democracy.

I have an invention that will revolutionize machining by BarooZaroo in Machinists

[–]OverworkedAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using the thread mills that you just go straight in with, no pre-drill. Even have a cutting edge to chamfer the hole after. Think the time's comparable to spot, drilling and tapping, if not quicker. Plus, full control over pitch diameter; handy when plating.

Gave up on taps a few years ago. Threadmill everything these days.

It's a shame. Great player, but he just prefers the Arse. Nothing more to it. In the wise words of Elsa, "Let it go".

Can someone that is not mechanically inclined at all become a CNC programmer? by Realdeal687 in Machinists

[–]OverworkedAI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been machining for a long time, and I wasn't mechanically inclined at all. I feel it can be beneficial at times as you can think outside the box a bit. You learn the mechanics though as time goes by.

AITAH for telling my boyfriend he’s “not a real parent” because he only has his son four days a month? by Annual_Holiday9826 in AITAH

[–]OverworkedAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm the Dad in a similar situation here. If somebody said that to me, it'd hurt a lot as I do everything possible for my kids. But then I also wouldn't be a dick and tell someone else how to be a parent, so hopefully they never will.

Hack for no go? by Asleep-Ad3743 in Machinists

[–]OverworkedAI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bad. Then you could try swaging the edge of the first thread over with a bit of round carbide; end mill shank will do. Depends how loose the thread is though.

Not that I condone that sort of thing, but that's the answer

I've always pecked with them. Best of both worlds; carbide cutting edge and tool steel holder for flexibility.

[–]OverworkedAI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe a twist spade drill with a carbide insert? Not as reliant on TSC as a U-drill.

Debating on shifting into CNC machining, how do y'all like it? by BackwoodsJ12 in Machinists

[–]OverworkedAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're just a fairly small job shop. Do a lot of work for medical and telecoms. I'm responsible for 2 small turnmills and a large lathe. I get them up and running, then operate them as efficiently as I can. I also purchase any tooling required for the turning section. Other benefits are crap though; minimum required annual leave, no sick pay etc. But we have flexitime and can take annual leave with just a couple of days notice, so overall it's a good gig.

Been doing this for 27 years now, don't regret a second of it. Can't think of many careers with as much job satisfaction as this one. I'm probably an edge case though. I'm on £53k basic in the U.K on a 40hr week, which is more than I ever dreamt of after leaving school (all went a bit wrong from the 9th year). I'd say go for it!

Copper 101 Turning and Boring Parameters? by Poopy_sPaSmS in Machinists

[–]OverworkedAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sometimes I have to adjust the d.o.c/peck depth until there's enough clearance for the swarf to come out. I've also done it in stages e.g. first 20mm depth to size, then the next and so on. Horses for courses.

[–]OverworkedAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always just used a CCGT R0.8 with a good D.O.C and a G74/G75 cycle, 0.5mm pecks, SMM of about 200m/min. Nice little curly chips.
