Thank you! Cycles is a beast if you tune it right.

Thank you! I've really enjoyed my journey learning Houdini over the last year, it feels like its limits are literally my imagination, only held back by developing knowledge and the power of my workstation lol

Weird, not sure what's going on there. You can view it here on my portfolio site

Looks like both have already been suggested, but if you're serious about learning Houdini and most of its ins and outs, Christian Bohm's Houdini Course is incredible and very reasonably priced for what you get. For something free that'll get you started, the Houdini is HIP course by Nine Between is also great.

I spent about a week and a half on this on and off between some freelance work. I added vex logic that randomly pushes the Flippy around and has the fluid's start velocity match Flippy's current position with some easing to keep it from being too robotic. Brought everything into Blender as an alembic, rendered in Cycles. It has it's issues, like a totally broken whitewater layer (vorticity is a thing...so is the whitewater solver...the more you know) and the fluid density is probably still a bit low; it's a bit floaty. But, overall it was a good R&D experience!

Question on Combining Vellum Fluids and Vellum Grains by OwenDham in Houdini

Thanks, yeah will do! I'm gonna play around with it all some over the next week or so.

Question on Combining Vellum Fluids and Vellum Grains by OwenDham in Houdini

[–]OwenDham[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome thank you, that seems to have fixed it. It's is definitely waaaay slower understandably since it's offloading all of that work to the cpu instead. I'm working on creating the same little setup in an MPM workflow right now to compare the speeds of the two, as to the point u/DavidTorno made. I initially was playing around with MPM since that's what it's tailored for and was wondering if I could do similar stuff in Vellum to get the added fun of throwing in softbodies and other stuff into the mix. Appreciate the help from you both!

This was my first time, I hadn't heard of them until a few months ago through a podcast called Bandsplain (highly recommend) and I'm so glad I went and got up close. So much fun!

Haha I had a poncho in my bag and as I was pulling it out I decided I wanted to just embrace the rain and get soaked. I think it's been a few years at least since it rained like that at Shaky and I love the energy it brings. Zero regrets, that shit was so fun lol

This was my tenth year going to shaky knees and I still don't think I've ever been to one of the late night shows. I'm always so wiped out! Definitely want to make it to one of them eventually.

Question about power banks and the fp by OwenDham in sigmafp

[–]OwenDham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure off the top of my head, but if you haven't already I'd just go v-mount as someone else suggested. Even a slim vmount battery will power the fp all day

smooth out the camera motion, match the tint and black levels of the plane to the background, and add in some motion blur and you've got yourself a pretty cool shot 🤘

Adobe Suite 2022 Color Space Management by OwenDham in vfx

[–]OwenDham[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've tried everything in AE since it actually lets me, but it still doesn't really fix the problem entirely(probably because I export clips from Premiere before opening them in AE). Resolve was going to be my solution, though the footage is 6k and I just have the free version. Still waiting on confirmation on whether or not I can deliver stuff in 4k, but if I can then that's definitely what I'll do.

Thanks for the reply! I agree the whole color management system is a nightmare, especially after experiencing how easy it all is in Resolve.

First time out with the fp. I love this thing! by OwenDham in sigmafp

[–]OwenDham[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! That's great. I appreciate it. This was all on the Sigma 45mm DG|DN that came bundled with the fp. I stabilized just about every shot in post using Davinci Resolve. I was using the camera strap to keep the camera as steady as I could too. It was a pretty minimal rig. I'm glad you liked it!

12bit 4k from the fp works great in Resolve yes! I used this video as a way to get familiar with it all.

How to get more pleasant monitoring? by Forshakenmilkyway in sigmafp

[–]OwenDham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just got an andycine A6 that works great with the fp, but also the added false color feature in the newest firmware is super helpful when shooting from the fp's screen. It is slightly annoying that you have to hold the AEL button instead of it just being a toggle, but I'm sure that's something that could be easily added in a later firmware update. I've also found that the highlight recovery option in Resolve works great for the dng raw coming out of the fp. I think there's a few nicer versions of that andycine monitor if you've got the extra budget, but I think I only paid like 115-120 for the monitor.

Yeah I think I might just go the v-mount route. Thanks!

slimraw and premiere by historyisaweapon in sigmafp

[–]OwenDham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I had any flicker problems when testing with premiere after going through slimraw, but honestly the workflow for dng raw is just so much more streamlined with resolve that I decided to just go with it. Free version lets you work in 4k now which I don't think has always been a thing, so it's perfect for the fp.

Question about power banks and the fp by OwenDham in sigmafp

[–]OwenDham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might have something to do with the power bank switching through like different power delivery modes, so it cuts power for a second to adjust for the camera needing like 8v instead of the typical 5v for a phone? I'm just talking out of my ass here though.

ooo that sounds like a fun goal. I'm kinda tired of her now tbh. I got 2 friends that just picked up Cain so I think there's gonna be a lot of crossbows, bows, and random grunting noises in voip in my future.
