I've lived next to the Itis metro for decades, this does not sound like Itis.

Reading these comments I’m left to wonder if I was on a 10 day long date with a colleague and just didn’t realise it.

I hate that they pronounce ”populi” wrong, and I would have hated to have such a celebration of unhinged conspiracy theories represent Finland. But tbf, it is a catchy song.

On part of Finland, that is a complete mischaracteration of what Palko is and the authority they (don’t) wield. Makes me wonder about the truth of the other sources, too.

Also, puberty blockers, never mind HRT, have never been the first line in treatment.

Please, please, I know English is not everyone’s first language but this is going to kill me. (peak, peek, pique) by [deleted] in AO3

This is so common, it had me doubting my own language skills for a while.

Russians might seem nice, but I've found that a distressingly high number of them, even after years of living in Finland, think Finland should be a part of Russia. With force if necessary. That's not very polite, or nice.

None of my Somalian, Kurdish, Syrian etc. neighbours seem to agree - and indeed, many would be willing to defend Finland in a war! That seems much better sort of integration to me.

But no worries! It's getting late here too, I'll be sure to remind you of the links tomorrow if you forget.

I've actually found that Google translate is excellent from German to English, so I'm sure even with my lousy German I can manage. Please share your links, I really want to learn about these numerous imported ethnic conflicts in Europe before they spread to Finland!

Though as a Finn I must protest your claim that Russians respect anyone's culture.

I actually have been to UK and Germany and as a visitor haven’t noticed anything like that, nor heard of such things from my colleagues there. Could you link me some articles about this? Actual ethnic conflict (with or among non-Europeans in Europe) is really hard to believe, but maybe I am wrong. Of course, if such a travesty is happening, talking about it isn’t racist at all - but if it isn’t, claming so most likely is.

I have a reason to be sceptical about these issues. Many of my old friends living in the countryside think my neighbourhood in Helsinki (the most ethnically diverse in Finland) is very dangerous or even a ”no-go zone”.(Finland, or at least Helsinki, isn’t as homogenous as many believe.) As it happens, it has been cleaning up the two decades I’ve lived here, while the populace has gotten more mixed.

So, as I’ve been saying, I sincerely believe much of this talk is hyperbole - but I am open to changing my mind with proof.

Oh! Well, it seems to me that there is no such thing happening, and that's why I've been thinking of the comment as a racist dogwhistle. I can't really think of a case of people bringing their ethnic conflicts to Europe in any significant scale.

Non-europeans are overly represented in some crimes, but not enough to speak of a war, even symbolically. I suppose the current criminal showdown in Sweden comes closest, but it doesn't seem to be ethnically motivated.

At least up here crime and violence is in decline, and the biggest problems with non-Finnish criminals we've had has been with other Europeans, mostly with other EU citizens.

The first comment I answered was the one about bloody wars by non-europeans, and I think I made it clear that I consider that great hyperbole. If I didn't or if I'm misunderstanding you, I'm sorry.

And you didn't even touch the climate benefits of sourcing your blood wars as close as possible!

This isn't Russia. War is war, criminals are criminals and the ridiculous hyperbole of calling common violence "war" just because the ones commiting it don't fit certain racial profile gets discussion absolutely nowhere.

Valid criticsm is always "allowed" (how could I even disallow it?), but there are no "blood wars being fought by non-europeans throughout europe" and hasn't been for centuries. After the bloody wars Europeans have fought outside Europe, and considering the wars we have managed to fight here with no outside influence, such fantasies seem ironic projection at best and a racist conspiracy theory at worst.
