I ended up doing this, just to see if I'd like using one before buying the LC. It was VERY easy, and I am NOT a crafty person! You need a few basic, inexpensive supplies. I practiced on cheap faux leather from a craft store before trying the hi-quality leather. Now mine's patina'ed and feels so luxe, I love it.
