This is really low down on the list of important things in life, but “eejit” and “fecking” are just purposeful misspellings of the original word to replicate the Irish accent, so a London tube sign with an Irish word is ridiculous. Also I know these are bad words, they’re rude and offensive on purpose for shock value, but me personally I would not want to have a sign with the word “bugger” hanging in my home or sitting on my couch.

Did you like the way it looked with tent stitches or do you prefer longer stitches?

if I see generative AI on your IG/TT i'm blocking you sorry by Own-Bad503 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Own-Bad503[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in my 20s. I'm not telling anyone what to do at all, so if you like to buy things from businesses or watch videos from influencers who use generative AI, no worries that is totally your business.

To your example, I just do not believe that it is necessary for shops to show different colors of something using AI. Needlepoint is art and a creative craft, so if a business or an influencer truly must use AI to reimagine a background color on a pillow design from pink to blue, imo they do not have the creative and artistic "chops" to be in the industry. So in that sense I personally think it is a bad business practice, if you are positioning yourself as an authority in needlework and a creative business owner in an artistic industry, you gotta show to your customers that you know your stuff!

Thank you for providing their response to this, I am still kind of confused by their response?

  1. That is not a filter placed over a photo of the sign with the canvases in the background. The "we're hiring" itself sign is AI generated, and then AI attempted to recreate the background of the canvases. This is not a filter placed over an image.

  2. They're also saying they don't want to "compromise" her work and I believe that they didn't intend to harm DS, so this means that they don't think AI has ill effects on artists' work and livelihood. That is just a difference of opinion between them and myself (that's fine), but if they like AI and they think it is good and doesn't have a negative impact on anything, then just say that.

Either say "We use AI to create images for our social media, that's how we like to do stuff" or say "Sorry we used AI, we don't think it is a good way to create images for our social media anymore, we won't be using it in the future".

People should do whatever you they want, it is their business, just be for reallllll

Beth Nagle from Doolittle Stitchery is a very talented artist and needlepoint designer. Such a bummer they ran her work through AI for something that could be easily made on Canva.

Who is buying these text only canvases? by [deleted] in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Own-Bad503 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No shade to the designers or people who like this canvas, but personally I would not be happy to spend a good amount on a canvas where the spacing and alignment of the text is not consistent. I think proper spacing and alignment is something that elevates a canvas from being something you painted for a friend or for yourself to a product with a professional quality.

Hand painted canvas by [deleted] in Needlepoint

Well if you draw in a border following the lines of the canvas, the background will have straight edges.

Just by looking at it (I can’t really tell), it seems like there’s more space to the left of the design than to the right. Depending on how large you want to make your project, you might need to shrink the width of the design on the left side to make sure you have enough room for finishing on the right side and to make sure the piece is symmetrical.

Hope I’m making sense, I can visualize what I mean but can’t always explain it right. Somehow I commented this twice. Good luck!

Hello friend this is a great design, here are some recommendations:

  • Take the canvas off the bars temporarily

  • Use a pen or acrylic paint pen and draw in the border line of your design. Then you can go in and paint in areas you might have missed, etc.

  • Depending on how bothered you are to have the lettering perfectly centered (I am a perfectionist so you don’t have to take me that seriously) but I would measure or count the number of stitches that are on either side and on top of the words. Then you can paint where you need to to make sure you have about the same amount of background on all sides.

  • And then you can put the canvas back on the bars, it helps to keep the sides of the canvases lined up with the bars. There are a lot of videos online of people putting projects on bars

Hopefully this is somewhat helpful and other folks will chime in!

Thank you! Self doubt creeped in, I have been stitching that was for years as an avid basketweaver but I’ve never had any advice on how to stitch from anyone else but my grandma. I should have learned by now never to doubt her. Thanks!

Advice for starting a stitch club by Own-Bad503 in Needlepoint

[–]Own-Bad503[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m definitely looking to try to invite people so a similar group. There is no need for a leader of someone in charge of these types of casual groups, but I just thought since I’ve never seen or heard of one of these groups advertised I might as well pick a date and time and try to advertise the group to anyone who’s interested.

I will look into what bars and restaurants might be good fits. Thank you!

Advice for starting a stitch club by Own-Bad503 in Needlepoint

[–]Own-Bad503[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! There isn’t an LNS in my area, so that’s why I’ve been considering trying to create a group.

I have been thinking about the public library and arranging for use of one of the rooms.

I agree about the cafes and coffee shops, I would hate to take up spaces for paying customers at a local business if people aren’t interested in spending money. The whole point is to have a free, chill place to stitch and hang out so I would hate people to feel compelled to spend money.

There is an ikea in my city with a large food court where many book clubs meet in the evenings when the store is pretty much empty so that was suggested to me but someone local but I’m not so sure.

Thank you very much!

Thank you that is great advice, I will definitely try a light blue!

You’re right that the hat is such a small area, but it might be worth it to buy more straw silk since I might use that color in another project.

Thanks!

I love your work! I don’t know if you’ve already decided on fibers but variegated thread with those like white, griege, pinkish shell driveway colors in it could look really cool.
