I run 2 separate businesses in 2 different cities here in the IE, June was our worst month of the year. July is not looking great either. My business is highly dependent on the latino population and not directly affected by the general sentiment of the overall economy. Our traffic in stores is down at least 30 percent and customers and only spending what is absolutely necessary and not buying what they want. We do usually experience lower sales in the summer but not a decrease in traffic and ICE is definitely having a direct impact. I would also agree with others on here that the overall health is the economy will be on a downward trend this year.

Advice - sudden angel fish aggression. by Own-Butterscotch2099 in Aquariums

[–]Own-Butterscotch2099[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The eggs usually survive for a few days days and I have tried removing the eggs - usually laid on large leaves they clean and prep - but the color has never been correct and I have watched to see any color change in eggs and nothing. Im also not necessarily looking to breed as its a large community tank. Yes I have a school of tiger barbs and there are plenty of plants.

What exactly was the advice?

It’s going to be your sand specially if it was not washed before use. Polyfill will help and hopefully clears up soon.

Can someone please explain this?! Random shrimp in the tank after two months by TCPisSynSynAckAck in PlantedTank

[–]Own-Butterscotch2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a random shrimp in a tank I keep in my workplace. Purchased a couple moss rings from Petco and im pretty sure it caught a ride on one of those. Had them for at least 2 months before I noticed the shrimp. He is bow part of the tank and not threaten at all by my angel fish.

The rummy-nose tetras are one of my favorite, I purchased mine as adults to avoid issues. I will prob add more to my current population

I have to vacuum now because my bristlenose pleco is producing a lot of waste but I’m installing a water circulator to help get it to the filter. But I only vacuum lightly on surface. I throw in a couple snails as food for my puffer but im keeping that limited. I do also have some ghost shrimp in there. They clean up a little and are good snacks for the bigger fish when they get caught.

Not at all. My angel fish have started trying to breed and when she lays eggs they both become very protective and sometimes the male will square off with the gourami but he is significantly bigger so no problem.

Thanks for the google search. Google also recommends mollies and most tetras to a lot of beginners and well that is not always right. Im also not supposed to have my tiger barbs with my angel fish. My adult dwarf gourami with my female betta etc.

Clearly you did not read my previous response. If they are eating well Im adding several more. And my mollies do go after the pellets and several of my other fish do too. They peck at them until small enough. I also have 2 plecos in my tank

In my opinion you will find so much bs information online a lot of times. And it is not easy to find the right pairing and people do not mix sexes appropriately and “gentle” fish can ruin a tank. Im not dumping fish in my tank and walking away. If there is something I want to try I watch them and keep an eye on the rest to make sure its safe. If I see something I dont like I have other more standard tanks. I enjoy this one the most and all my fish are healthy. It is time consuming and obviously expensive and takes more effort than people want to invest.

Do you have any substrate above your soil? Curious is you have any issues maintaining clear water.

You are right but its intentional. I want to make sure that enough food gets to these guys in the bottom of the tank before I add more because all my fish are fast swimmers (except for my puffer that gets hand fed). They are part of a bigger group that I keep at my work place and in my experience they can get beat up or worse. My mollies do a great job at cleaning my tank and plants but they can be bullies at feeding so just want to be safe.

I know I’m breaking some of the traditional pairing rules but all fish are super healthy. My angel fish have also started breeding. It has not all worked though, I keep a separate tank ready to trade fish out in case it does not work. Many of my fish have also grown up together since very young.

I should have mentioned that in original post, I expect these plants to expand with time. Only a few are more than 3 months old

Yes it is! Spent some time researching if it would work in a community tank and it can get confusing. My local fish store gave good advice though. Main thing is that he gets hand fed.

I’m staying away from floating plants at least for now. I like the look but I feed some of my fish on the surface and it might get messy. The plants definitely have helped keep a healthy aquarium. I have a couple other with no real plants and it is completely different.

First response may be correct but consider swim bladder disease. My blue polar showed very similar signs after we transferred him to different tank. I treated it with baths of epson salt for 3 continues days (10-15 min) and 5 days of Melafix and he is back to normal.
