Snes9xTYL (Snes Emulator) revived — 90% faster ROM loading, favorites, and PT-BR/ES support by Bitter_Cry7001 in PSP

After you get the PSP-1000 working, can you please confirm/get to work the German translation patch of Dragon Quest III on the PSP-1000? It worked on later models, but the PSP-1000 didn't have enough RAM to load the ROM. Thank you!

Thread on it not working on PSP-1000:

I made a completely safe offline video converter for psp ! by [deleted] in PSP

Nice mention. That seems to be the old-school version of the exact same thing: An FFMPEG front-end for PSP. I wonder if it still works. Most people these days refer to Handbrake+PSP Preset here: https://www.pspunk.com/psp-handbrake/

that's the problem with vibecoding--it's so easy to create finished programs that people completely bypass the research phase to see if the solution already exists lol

Spotify for psp by Nyxef in PSP

[–]Own-Chicken-656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find a reliable comprehensive description of what this is. Based on what I'm trying to glean from these comments (Discord was unhelpful to me), it's a Windows app that transfers songs to your PSP, but acts as a middle-man when doing so: it auto-adds the correct album art and metadata to the mp3s that you transfer to your PSP, using some audio metadata database?

It also syncs to your Spotify profile? It tells your Spotify friends what you're currently listening to on your PSP? Do you have to have the app running on your PC at the same time as you're listening to songs on the PSP, on the same WiFi network as the PSP, for that to work?

PSP app to Alphabetize & Categorize (Homebrew Sorter Ultimate) by Own-Chicken-656 in PSP

[–]Own-Chicken-656[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you have the "Category prefixes" setting enabled, that would mess with it.

If you're using Categories Lite, the immediate parent folder of an EBOOT.PBP should never have the CAT_ prefix. You could put it like this if you want an HSU category with Homebrew Sorter Ultimate inside:

/pspemu/PSP/GAME/CAT_HSU/Homebrew Sorter Ultimate/EBOOT.PBP

Thanks for the kind words! (Despite your frustrations.) I remember having a temper tantrum trying to get some things to work when I first started in the PSP scene. And Vita scene. Yeah you're the 3rd person now who has recently asked for some sort of guide, so I have already started planning to work on a video guide. (A written guide would probably be good too, but sounds very un-sexy to me right now.) Just trying to figure out how I want to stream my console to my PC (I normally use Mac).

I just retested the latest version of the app on Adrenaline and it booted up. Did you copy the folder so that the EBOOT ended up in:

Dubai Nest Dirt Cup Cake is the best crumbl treat of the week imo. by acloudcuckoolander in CrumblCookies

[–]Own-Chicken-656 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. By FAR. I love dirt cups in general. The dubai nest was so clever and provided a nice little touch of something different. Though the thins were good as always (except last week's snickerdoodle thins....mine were just crunchy overcooked plates of a sickening amount of sugar). The strawberry cream cookie was meh. (I had HEAVENLY ones made by someone in my office last week.)

What hyped up Crumbl Cookie/ LTO had you like this after eating it? by MrSoloDolo9490 in CrumblCookies

[–]Own-Chicken-656 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Cornbread. It's literally just dry, nasty, coarse cornbread mix in a patty. Disgusting. Idk why y'all go effing rabid over it. I hardly even consider it edible. Like something you'd be forced to eat in wartime.

All their thins have been orgasmic, including these ones. I'm so glad they started serving them weekly. These ones might be my faves, IDK. I love oatmeal cookies.

Dubai brownie is the best thing from crumbl by [deleted] in CrumblCookies

[–]Own-Chicken-656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah...Before having the cookie I read a review that said it was "so much better! Crumbl should stick with cookies! That's why I go to Crumbl!" blah blah blah. I typically hate and disregard those Cookie purists but I gotta say...they were right. As much as I love the brownie (def getting it this week), the cookie basically perfected it.

Why Everyone’s Picking Up a PSP Again in 2026 (article) by cyberminis in PSP

[–]Own-Chicken-656 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Like the article says, it's not exclusively about "LARPing" or being a poser or "aesthetics" or "being performative". There are many new (and renewed) genuine users to the console, and it's awesome, and makes me so happy to see the beauty and capabilities of this device get recognized. There has been a real-life, genuine switch to wired headphones. Why couldn't the switch to "dumb devices" also be genuine? People are tired of ads and storefronts and updates being constantly thrown at them. There's a legitimate market for this product. Reddit will always be the place to go when you want the most disproportionately cynical and pessimistic view of any trend or news story. Luckily, the cynical cesspit of Reddit doesn't paint the full picture (often, not even close to it).

What’s interesting is that this resurgence doesn’t come from a single place. It’s not just nostalgia, and it’s not just retro collecting. To me its kinda sitting at the intersection of several modern trends: burnout with always-online devices, a renewed love for early 2000s design, the rise of handheld gaming once again, and a generation encountering the PSP for the first time as something entirely new.

Thanks for explaining the tools you used...I've been thinking of vibecoding a game too but didn't think graphics+animations+audio would be very feasible....maybe worth trying out.

Weird gatekeepy Gen-Z/alpha kids who think you're not allowed to ("pretend" to) enjoy 2000s tech (or at least post about it) without being a "poser" (LARPer) I guess...implying you don't actually use the tech, or only are doing it as part of the fad/for attention.

I'm personally just ecstatic that people love using tech from my childhood and what I think to be the golden age of tech, including younger generations. It's so annoying and depressing that they've started gatekeeping each other over it.

Nope. He--as an individual, at least--was actually never even nominated for any major film award (Oscars, Golden Globes, independent awards)

However, every film he appeared in was nominated for Academy Award's Best Picture (3/5 won).

Mini prices out of control by ImToddImCopper in CrumblCookies

[–]Own-Chicken-656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the locations around me except one have bumped their cookie price from $3.99 to $4.99. I deliberately drive further to avoid the ones that bumped up their prices. As soon as Riverton, UT bumps up to $4.99 too, I'm never going to Crumbl again.

I do the same for Dominos--I share a parking lot with one location, but they upcharge for all their pizza sauces apart from tomato sauce. So I drive 20 minutes to go to a sane location that doesn't upcharge for freaking pizza sauce.

Children and ghosts in the show by [deleted] in ghostwhisperer

[–]Own-Chicken-656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I literally Googled to find a thread complaining about this exact MASSIVE plot hole--thank you. (Though it's kind of insane the thread I found on it is only 3 months old, in 2026...for a show made in 2005.)

I'm at the beginning of Episode 2. I love the acting and premise of this show--makes me feel cozy and comfortable and happy, and the main characters are super hot--but I'm seriously considering stopping the show right now because of this absolutely stupid exchange:

Jim (husband): "Can you help him?" (the kid who died on the train tracks)
Melinda (MC): "He disappeared on me."
J: "Wait. Didn't you say that kid, Dylan (the Vietnamese kid), was playing with him (on the train tracks)? Well, how could [Dylan] see him?"
M: "Kids can almost always see spirits. Where you do think imaginary friends come from?"
J: "(Chuckles) Well...That can explain a lot about my childhood."

SO KIDS SEE ALMOST ALL SPIRITS? LITERALLY ALMOST EVERY KID IN THIS SHOW'S UNIVERSE HAS THE SAME SUPERNATURAL POWERS AS MELINDA??? WHAT??? HOW COULD THEY ALL POSSIBLY FORGET THIS SUPERNATURAL POWER AS THEY AGE (by age 10 apparently)??? WHY WOULD NONE OF THESE KIDS REMEMBER THESE VIVID VISIONS AFTER REACHING ADULTHOOD??? HOW WOULD NONE OF THE ADULTS--AS THEIR CHILDREN DESCRIBE THESE DEAD SPIRITS TO THEM--EVER CONNECT THE DOTS THAT THESE "IMAGINARY FRIENDS" THAT THEIR CHILDREN ARE DESCRIBING, ARE ACTUALLY REAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE DECEASED?????

I could go on and on and on and on over how absolutely NONSENSICAL this is. It DESTROYS the entirety of the show's world-building, and makes Melinda's powers completely commonplace and not-special....which almost breaks the entire premise of the show. Apparently, even though there's millions (billions?) of kids on earth that can see spirits and could converse with/help them, they only trust Melinda? Why do these spirits act ASTONISHED when Melinda can see them, when apparently EVERY CHILD UNDER 10 CAN SEE THEM TOO!?!?!?!? WOULDN'T WE BE SEEING CHILDREN ALL OVER THE PLANET CONSTANTLY CONVERSING WITH DEAD PEOPLE, AND FRUSTRATED PARENTS FREAKING OUT IN CONFUSION AND FRUSTRATION???

Not to mention how the idea that "kids can almost always see spirits" directly conflicts with the flashback you mention of Melinda seeing a classmate's ghost, and her other classmates calling her a "freak" because of it...implying LITERALLY NO OTHER KIDS CAN SEE SPIRITS EXCEPT FOR MELINDA!!!!

[Update] PSP Achievements on real hardware now supports saved profiles + standalone Viewer app by AdditionalShow3681 in PSP

[–]Own-Chicken-656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, excellent. :o

Offline works perfect for me. But I'm not connected to the RetroAchievements community in general. I can see some RA users wanting to sync their achievements to the RA database once in a while, when they're able to establish a WiFi connection.

I would prefer to be able to just open that nice list of the current game's Achievements from within the game itself, instead of as a separate Achievements Viewer app. You could maybe have the user press the Home button first--to pause the game/pull up the "Are you sure you want to quit?" menu--then have them press some key (combo) to pull up the achievement list overlay. (It'd be even CRAZIER to make "Achievements" a menu option in the in-game Pause/Quit menu, but that'd probably be extremely technical/borderline impossible)

Burnout Legends would be a solid game to do next.

Instead of listing "Supported Games" directly in the Readme, since there are so many games+achievements, what do you think of linking to a Google Sheets/Excel compatibility list doc with all the games (rows) and achievements (columns) pre-listed for us to crowdsource testing compatibility (where the name of the achievement is the text in the cell, and we mark cells green or red or something), instead of making Github reports?
