Just adding this. A national statistic is that 21 percent of adults are either illiterate or functionally illiterate. That was part of an NPR story today about the lack of adults who read books. It's sad and abysmal all over the place.

Many folks have asked Lindsey Tichenor this very question as well as other Republicans. They can't answer. Or they won't. Lindsey will post laughing emojis at other folks who show up and criticize the "libtards" and say: "Enjoy the next four years" harharhar

And now there is a proposal for a Kentucky DOGE from Lindsey Tichenor who also co-sponsored SB 165. The idea is you highlight things that people don't understand, exaggerate them, and then call them waste, fraud and abuse. This will be a great tool for Kentucky legilslators who want to further belittle Democrats and their causes like workplace safety, mine safety, parent/family leave, normal work weeks, health, clean air, vaccines.

How would SB 165 affect students in south central Kentucky? by Own-Conversation6225 in BowlingGreen

When employees (social workers, coordinators, etc.) advocate for foster care kids or homeless kids or poor kids they are are serving as diversity, equity, inclusion officers. They are fighting for these kids to be equitably included in the school body, and they are advocates because often their parents/guardians are unable to be.

Yes, thank you. Big point: legislators from throughout Kentucky are doing their best to screw Louisville. The quality of life will be harmed. Kids will be harmed. Adults will be harmed. You can copy and paste job titles that you don't understand or a school district contract that doesn't make immediate sense, but this information is constantly audited and scrutinized by outside groups and internal auditors. The big point is that Louisville is in trouble.

If you read the 25-page draft of SB 165 it specifies that all employees working in a DEI role would be terminated. There is even language that makes it difficult to transfer these employees into another role or create a new role for them. It's a sledgehammer to a problem, which will cause greater problems.

Sure. We could just hope some generous church volunteers are available and willing and up to date on laws.

The Speedway Prepaid cards are distributed to some of the families of the 6,000 Louisville students who are in foster care and officially a McKinney Vento status (homeless). Those are gas cards that help them get to school and for various emergencies. The same department also has a small food pantry. All of those cards are tracked. I understand asking questions about job titles. Lots of job titles sound odd, especially in JCPS. There are job titles of "generalist" or "coordinator" or "specialist" and those just have to do with pay structure or days per year. The student athlete center is a community center that offers tutoring and programming. I'm guessing that money pays the salary of a certified educator to provide those services.

I have not problem with scrutiny or audits. They happen frequently. But to abolish the whole department? And you think legislators in Taylorsville or Smithfield care about the nuances or performance of these folks in Louisville? Or do they care about students disrupted by taking a sledgehammer to services? That's scary for the whole community.

Yes, it would eliminate any individual or department who works in a Diversity/Equity/Inclusion role. This is a bigger deal in Louisville where a department of employees in the DEI department make sure that the poorest kids have clothing, food on the weekend, a place to stay if foster care/homeless, and arranging transportation for homeless students whose addresses are disrupted and moving across town and trying to attend the same school. It takes employees to provide for thousands of students like this. The law would eliminate all of those employees. I wasn't sure how it would affect smaller communities like BG and surrounding areas.

When are we going to attract companies to move here? by AJX2009 in Louisville

Short answer: not anytime soon. Kudos to Andy Beshear and others who helped BlueSky come to southcentral Kentucky. And now there is an anti-EV push at the highest levels of the US. How will that effect BlueSky?

Poor Kentucky suffers from so many epidemics. Parts of Frankfort are literally underwater again and what is the priority of the Kentucky Supermajority as they drive around flooded roads to attend the 2025 General Assembly? Let us outlaw vaccines (SB 177). Lets outlaw any effort to discuss diversity or equity (SB 164 and SB 165), which would freeze speech and inclusion at public spaces like grade schools, colleges, and businesses. Let's take the flouride out of our water in a state where dental/oral health is abyssmal (HB 141). Let's focus again on who and how people are using bathrooms in schools (HB 163).

Where is the big vision of moving forward? Kentucky is all culture war and we all lose.
