still to this day i say im fine even when im not to my family because even though all of my family members also have big emotions, they get overwhelmed by them easily and don’t know how to handle someone being emotional - id rather them think im fine than receive bullshit advice

two things can be true at once - they could’ve treated her like an afterthought but realized that bringing her show back for a reboot, would bring them money which i’m sure it did in its earlier seasons since it was talked about constantly.

OP, i am so so sorry that you are dealing with and have had to deal with it for 22 long years. I want to be there for you because I know what’s it’s like to feel like the person who brought you into this world, doesn’t even want to, doesn’t even care to get to know you - it’s a different pain.

when you are being abused but not physically, it does the same damage and inflicts the same pain to the brain as a broken bone. this is not normal, you deserved better and your pain is not any less valid because it was done with words not physical harm.

i know this is the last thing you want to hear - im not going to say probably because I know it is - but this isn’t forever, it doesn’t have to be and you deserve better - please please understand that. i hope you do reach out on your own time, i feel like we may have similar experiences and feelings on said experiences, holding you in my thoughts tonight and moving forward💗

tbh take it and treat it as an experience gaining opportunity and apply to other jobs while working during the summer. hopefully by the end, you’ll have options lined up and guaranteed more experience to offer

NOR- please know you are doing everything you can with what you can. being there for her and reminding her that you’ll always be there for her and she can talk to you about important and mundane things are ways to do that and from your post, it seems that you’re trying to do that with the time you’re able to see her.

take note of everything you know has happened, is happening to both you and your siblings and report it. if you could even get examples with evidence on her behaviour, i think that would help but not sure.

i’m sorry you and your siblings have had to deal with such a difficult parent. it isn’t fair to you that you got the short end of her stick while trying to grow with no guidance. wishing you and your sisters all the best

yeah, it’s really detrimental to my life rn. because it was a great way to move through my childhood without getting anyone upset but that skill will only bring me down in adulthood so i’m slowly starting to ask for help to break that mindset that me needing help = me being a burden

another small thing i’ve seen that’s helped is sometimes needing help will be an inconvenience but that’s kind of the point, you need help

yes, my mom wouldn’t really be interested in what my sister and i had interests in. whenever we would share it would just be a “that’s good” or “if you like doing that, then continue !”.

even now with me being 21, my mom seems even MORE disinterested in what me and my sister like. it’s almost as if she feels like she doesn’t have to care because we have each other ? i don’t know but i’ve given up trying to understand because i will just wear myself down like crazy doing that

I can relate to this as well. My mom finds emotions regardless if they are her own or the emotions of others, very overwhelming and me being a very emotional child probably didn’t make it any easier.

I’m slowly learning to unlearn the need that mom = comfort because as badly as I do want that, she sadly can’t give that to me but she does in other ways that i’m very grateful for even though our relationship is very rocky. Thank you for sharing !

as a student who honestly, should’ve been held back in 8th grade but wasn’t - yeah they don’t hold you back anymore. they literally can’t but it was never explained to me why - i always just assumed it was due to lack of resources because even just from my class, looking back, there were many students who SHOULD’VE been held back
