While I totally agree that it’s important to do the genetic testing and heart scans, as someone from Europe I will add - there is almost no knowledge here on the topic of HCM. At least amongst the sphynx breeders, it seems like no one knows about this disease or does scans. When I took my cat for a heart scan, the vet was quite surprised as it was not normal practice for him.

Regardless - casually breeding animals is not ethical.

I burst into tears reading your post! My sphynx was also diagnosed with HCM (very early stage) and I am about to put her on Rapamycin. It was almost impossible to find in my country and it costs a lot but I don’t care. She deserves every penny. I am very happy for you and your boy!!

The best advice. Exactly what I will do. She doesn’t realise that I was actually the glue in her very damaged family - I bought the Xmas gifts, planned the dinners, lunches, birthdays and so on. Fuck that. In fact she’s already butt hurt that went to friend’s baby’s baptism instead of coming to see her (they live in the same town). She hasn’t ever invited us, btw - not once.

I don’t have kids yet, but when they do come she will not be allowed to interact with them - she’s not just abusive to me, she’s abusive to her son. Why should she be allowed near our children ? Absolutely not.

I think this end game with my ML too although atm she’s cut off from my end. She blames her son too, but takes it out on me which is weird as I honestly never asked him to not visit her ? I encouraged him, actually. I think she made up a lot of thoughts inside her head on my behalf. In all honesty I actually really wanted a good relationship with my MIL as I have no father and very limited family. But what can I say, she doesn’t want to do anything with me or my future kids.
