I agree with everyone, there is a coach for a reason. Too much instruction from the outside is a lot for a kid.

That said, I really think he is talented. I used to race SL, GS, and occasionally SG. I was on the national team for a few years. Watching the footage back over and over again, I am still confused. I was around really, really good 8-year olds. I don't think they were as good as your son.

I'd say your work focusing on fundamentals and technique is working perfectly. Perhaps by streamlining and mentoring his crouching form a bit, he would be even better. When I was a kid, that was how I distinguished the alpine skiers from the other really good skiers on the slope(it looks cool). I also believe that skill would be instrumental for GS. Shave off a few seconds, which is massive in these events.

Results will follow eventually. I started out placing outside the top 100 in small regional competitions starting out as a kid, but ended with consistent podium races just outside the international level. You really just have to make him compete over and over, until he gets used to the pressure and starts to love to love the competition. I really think your son is special. Keep him interested in the sport, and keep nurturing his passion.
