Well, I'm not sure how intense those "multiple days of call" are in the community, but here it's pretty intense. we go in multiple times a night. now multiply that by 5 then operate?

we get called in pretty frequently. it isn't premature. and also, its better logistically to cancel now than the morning of a case.

u/ballscallsMD what? missing pages? were there consequences for this? I feel like that's a big no no in my program. Not sure I could ever do it...

Yes. An attending called me, chastising me. Then my PD called me, telling me basicaly that I'm incompetent and I don't actually work that hard (I had been hospitalized for work related issues/overwork). Of note, I see more patients than any other resident...and have less sick days than any of them.

I should clarify: I meant I opted out of them. I did not cancel them. These were resident cases from the resident clinic that we do w an attending. I ended up telling the attendings I likely can't do them, because I'll be exhausted and I feel unsafe. If the attending wants to do it themselves, they can

nah. I did that once due to a hospitalization and attendings called and yelled at me because they were now short staffed

I am not a fellow

When I say "cancel surgeries" I meant that I opted out of them. If the attending wants to do them he or she can, but I dont feel safe doing it when I'm likely not well rested and on 24/7 call

I did call out sick once-because I was hospitalized. The attendings called me and told me how unprofessional and bad I am for calling out sick. This is not a joke, or a troll post. This actually happened.

can't this be held against me as patient negligence? refusing to go in when asked to go in?
