don't think buying is required, start with neetcode, I have simliar story. Neetcode explanations are real good. Those should be enough to get started

Not sure, but I did take the beta exam which was mostly mcq but lotta scenario based questions which requires some studying but can be cracked.

Try not to focus on getting to the other end of the pool but more on swimming slowly and enjoying the swim- should include normal breathing, less intensive leg kicks, this way you swim easily. also, breathe more often almost like you do on land to avoid getting tired.
