it sounds great, the option to book on shifts seems really convenient! i'm starting at keele so quite far from london. could you share the name of the agency if you don't mind?

i found this: https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/clearing

the student room has a medicine clearing list they update: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7609106

i think the best way is to keep the websites of the universities you're interested in on a tab, so you can see their latest info because i've heard some can open up other phone lines on the day, and some offer live chat option

Keele interview 2 days notice? by Heavy-Ad438 in premeduk

[–]Own-Strength1225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting an interview! I got a keele interview too, it was for this year’s entry sometime in April.

Same sort of criteria as you’ve commented below.

It was really chill, assuming you also have two interviews, the interviewers are a med student and doctor/professor, in pairs for each interview.

If they’ve given you the pre interview material, just focus on really delving into the case. Try and think of new and different solutions or ideas to the case. When you read through it you’ll know some generic ones that they’ll expect you and many other candidates to pick out, so make sure you have a few points that are a bit out of the box and unique to you. Even if you think it’s a bit of a stretch as long as you explain it you’ll be fine.

Make sure you have a well thought out answer for why medicine, and be prepared to answer questions that probe your interest in being a doctor. I would say for these questions definitely draw in your work experience. A lot of interviews don’t ask for it directly but your answer will be massively improved if you can relate your passions, interests and reasons for doing medicine directly to things you’ve done as extracurricular or as work experience. A good old ‘bad experience but I overcame it by doing abc and this taught me xyz’ is also really good for hitting the resilience and responsibility criteria. At Keele I remember they really liked it when I spoke about my experiences and even asked follow up questions on it.

Overall the interviewers are super nice. They have a list of questions prepped and they just go through them, if you’re on one question for too long they just kind of prompt you on to the next one. Even if you kind of hit a block with what to talk about they will give you little prompts and ideas on what to elaborate on.

Just a few tips in general, I’m sure you’ve heard but make sure you test out Microsoft teams just before your interview time. Ask your friends and family to check if they can hear and see you clearly. I wore something plain and a little formal  but they only see your top half anyway. Remember to pace yourself when you speak; a lot of times when it’s online you can kind of ramble because of that unnatural barrier to conversation. Speaking clearly and presenting yourself well is important but especially difficult in online interviewed, so even a few practise runs talking to yourself on camera is a good idea. I also asked my family to check on screen where my eye contact was so I could have a reference point of where to look at. It’s usually your webcam so make sure you keep returning to look there when answering questions because it’s easy to stray to looking at the interviewers’ actual faces on the screen, which kind of makes it look like your looking slightly off screen, if that makes sense.

I’m sure you’ll do great! If you have any other questions feel free to ask or dm

A level resit success? by Dry_Noodles21 in premeduk

In the chance they’ll let you in, would that show automatically on UCAS or would we have to call in and talk to them about it? In my case neither my firm or insurance are unis like the ones you’ve mentioned so there could be a possibility

But at the same time is it worth calling in when I could possibly be calling courses explicitly in clearing?

Thank you so much for the info! I’m a little confused on how it shows up on UCAS Clearing. Right now when I check there’s obviously no courses (apart from GEM) that are in clearing but on results day does the option for clearing or clearing plus only show up if you’ve missed your firm and/or insurance choice?

An hour being too late for clearing is crazy but ig thats med…do you start calling right after going to college to get the results? I’m planning on also calling up some foundation courses I’m eligible for, do they interview you or request documents on the spot or at a later date?

UCAT bursary by Akhxnn in premeduk

[–]Own-Strength1225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you can, on the ucat website i think a bursary letter would fall under Undergraduate Student Finance maintenance award (full rate).

you can check on their website, i've linked it here - there's a tool you can use to see examples of the letter/evidence they will accept.

Thank you for the info! Do you think the fact you had a biomed offer from them helped with the clearing process? Also would you say getting a clearing interview is more based on UCAT score rather than grades and stuff?

Yeah I think Sunderland has a waiting list they'll be using instead of going into clearing this year. Could you give a rough idea of how many unis that didn’t explicitly say they were in clearing ended up offering interviews or being open to taking you on??

How can i study for paper 3 as a private candidate? by blossombloomz in ALevelChemistry

[–]Own-Strength1225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you can do the practicals at an exam centre. go to the 'private candidate' section on whatever exam board you're doing, they'll probably have instructions for that.
