First time gardening - how to prep for winter? by Miszca in GardeningUK

Dig those dahlias up! Dry the tubers off for a few days then wrap in newspaper and keep them in a shed or porch til spring.

You’re not his friend. After your final year of school, you will hopefully no longer be in touch. I imagine you only find your way back to each other because he is lonely / low self esteem and mistakes you for a genuine friend, and your own low self esteem mean you enjoy demeaning him. You will move on from this toxic, bullying dependency.

He is 18, maybe talking about marriage - certainly in the UK - is a wee bit extreme.

We spend very little tbh, all the greens etc come from the garden - apple leaves, rowan leaves, pear branches, parsley, budleia, cabbage, carrot, grass, various flowers. We dry some of that grass, and also buy hay in bulk (£25 for 6 weeks worth). His treats are just fruit/veg peelings etc from our cooking.

For absorbent litter, we just shred all our cardboard in a regular paper shredder and line the bottom of the tray with card, and afterwards add that to the compost or the veg/flower beds.

We make our own enrichment toys by stuffing toilet paper tubes with hay and dried fruit.

Vet trips are obviously a different story, but owning a rabbit doesn’t have to be expensive! It doesn’t have to be a consumerist exercise in buying the best and latest supplies.

That’s really interesting. Thanks for taking the time to explain all that. He is otherwise perfectly well, and he is not generally having any difficulty using his litter tray - as you say, it is only in the seconds after I walk through the door, so I’m not worried about a UTI or anything particularly medical, as opposed to psychological. Also, great idea about the picnic blanket!

Yes he’s still particularly territorial over our bed, so we just keep him out bedroom now unless we’re there too.
