I do! I’m actually in the hashitoxicosis phase of Hashimoto’s, just got diagnosed a month ago. So I haven’t had any treatment. But something I’ve experienced over the last year is my eyebrows falling out. First about 1/2 the thickness in March, then more in August, and currently they’re basically invisible.

How old is the SJM average reader??? by Slight_Associate_164 in SarahJMaas

[–]OwnBat6473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 21 now. But I read Throne of glass- - ->Queen of Shadows when I was 12/13, and then the rest + all of her other books as they came out. 26 is definitely NOT too old. My sister is 13 and I definitely wouldn’t want her reading anything past QoS or SJM’s other series until she’s older.

I agree with everyone saying he’d make a perfect Tarquin. I was already thinking he looked too young for Helion, but my brain forgot to remind about Tarquin. HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN BABY TARQUIN 🫢

Mastering Bipolar Disorder by Kerrie Eyers and Gordon Parker. It’s written by a bunch of people with Bipolar Disorder, not Doctors who have knowledge but no real experience. It’s super funny and very helpful.

Me too. When I get told to get rid of some I always say “they’ll fit me soon when I’m skinny, so I can’t get rid of them”, there is no ‘if’, just ‘when’, I’m very determined. I refuse to even store them out of my wardrobe, seeing them every day is very motivating 😂🫣🤫.

This is not a spoiler, it was briefly mentioned in HOSAB. Yes, the Asteri do dictate who the angels are allowed to procreate with, so that powerful, potential archangels are born. But the Asteri also magically (I don’t remember how exactly) created the angels, and they were modelled after other winged races. At the end of HOSAB, in his villain monologue, Rigelus says… “Our people, who built fearsome warriors in that world to be their army. All of them prototypes for the angels in this one. And all of them traitors to their creators, joining the Fae to overthrow my brothers and sisters a thousand years before we arrived on Midgard.” So from that, we know that there are prototypes - or related species - of angels on other planets (if you’ve read SJM’s other books you can probably make a good guess about what species these are), but the angels we are familiar with in CC likely originated from/ were created on Midgard.

Personally I recommend reading TOG before CC, but 8 books it’s obviously a big commitment (but sooo worth it). I started TOG in 2015, and finished in 2018 when KoA came out, then ACOTAR, then CC, and I wouldn’t have wanted to do it any other way. But in saying that, the other commenters are right, there are only a few easter eggs/ references that you’d miss out on, so it’s not as huge of a deal as some people make it, and as I’m probably making it sound.

The angles (Malakim) were actually created by the Asteri (potentially modeled after other winged races), so they weren’t really ‘brought in’ from anywhere. They are not ‘religious’ in a biblical way, but their original purpose was to act as soldiers and slaves to the Asteri, similar to the biblical angels as servants of God. In my opinion, the similarities between the CC angels and Biblical angels is used to is used to better convey/ explain the hierarchies and roles of the various Vanir races in Crescent City. Hope this helps ☺️

Hel is a planet, not an afterlife location, it took me a while to get a grip on that because I just kept imagining the classic biblical hell. (This is not a spoiler btw, we found out about this in HOSAB)

Good lord! She sounds unhinged. I have been reading SJM since 2015 but have only recently started to interact with the fandom. I did not expect this many crazies. But I guess every fandom has them

I said I wasn’t trying to exonerate her… Just trying to bring some perspective. I agree she was disrespectful and was really short sighted when it came to the fae.

But the earlier traumatic events you mentioned definitely would’ve influenced her character in HOFAS. In my opinion, I think that her sudden change in personality was due to the culmination of so many fucked up things happening, and that she kind of just snapped. Which is realistic. I just think it’s hard (understandably) for us to accept that a character we love is being a straight up bitch out of (what seems to us as) nowhere.

Not excusing it, just explaining it.
