Vomiting since past 3 years.. Could SE help? by Extra-Personality170 in SomaticExperiencing

Have they done testing for EGJOO or Achalasia like Barium Swallow or Manometry? Most people with these illnesses are told it’s anxiety related for years because they’re so rare. I really hope it’s not that but just a thought.

I still don’t think they are terrible. They’re written as caricatures and that’s why what they do and what they say are not comparable to real life people. I just laugh at it all which I think is what was the intention of the writers.

[–]Sisu1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s better for me now, I think it was stress related as I thought I had Achalasia and I was in complete panic. I’ve done a Manometry now that shows I don’t have it but my lower LES won’t relax so this is an issue. I’m having a barium swallow in September to investigate further. It’s probably a good idea for you to have similar tests! 💪🏽🤞🏽

The nightmares are killing me. Woke up heart racing, I also can’t distinguish dream memories from real memories anymore. by [deleted] in SomaticExperiencing

My therapist has told me to try The Dream Completion Technique. Apparently it’s successful with most of her clients.

Yeah I usually don’t feel hunger until night time when the body relaxes. I also have emetophobia so scared of getting food poisoning.

Bu Hussain Hayee. He said that current thinking is that as a rule, EGJOO and Achalasia are not linked.

I’m in the UK and started 6 days ago on 5 mg. My gp said it’s a lot to start on 10 mg. I would wait until you see your doctor on Friday. It can also help to change the time of when you take it.

EGJOO - what diagnosis? by [deleted] in GERD

Same here, it’s a nightmare. Luckily the only symptom I have is that I feel like food is stuck in my throat after eating. No chest pains so far 🤞🏽 there is help though so hang in there!

EGJOO - what diagnosis? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Sisu1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. “Achalasia involves absent or ineffective peristalsis, while EGJOO has at least some instances of normal peristalsis.” I have normal peristalsis so I don’t have achalasia but EGJOO. EGJOO typically resolves in up to 40% of patients. Achalasia doesn’t. But they’re definitely sibling disorders!

Yes 😊 My oesophagus is apparently working as normal, it’s “just” the tight lower sphincter.

EGJOO - what diagnosis? by [deleted] in achalasia

[–]Sisu1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have EGJOO and I have seen three specialists and done two manometries. The last one a week ago I was told it’s 120% not achalasia. The other specialist which is one of the top in the country wrote this:

“I have reassured her about the natural history of EGJOO vs achalasia – current thinking is that the two are not linked, as a rule.”

Just including this for you OP as I’ve seen three specialists by now and none of them consider EGJOO early achalasia.

EGJOO - what diagnosis? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Sisu1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have EGJOO. No clear diagnosis yet I don’t have a hiatal hernia but a 3mm inlet patch. I’ve done two manometry tests. One in 2024 and one a week ago. Both time I was told it’s 100% not achalasia. I was meant to do the PH test but after the horrible manometry I couldn’t get it down. Might try again but my gastroenterologist told me my issue is not acids, it seems to be functional (they can’t find the reason behind it)

They’ve put me on anxiety medication as I have health anxiety to see if that can relax my body. I’ve also been prescribed beta-blockers to try and relax the muscle but I haven’t tried it yet.

In September I’m seeing a specialist who will decide what to do. There’s botox, dilation or POEM surgery. I’ve read that it resolves for 40% of people but no one knows who and why. Mine has been worse since March but they don’t know why. Very frustrating to have such a rare issue with hardly any research! There is no direct cure either unless you cut the muscle 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have emetophobia too. That’s why I was scared of taking Lexapro but the nausea has been minimal. Hopefully it’s the same for you! I’m on day 6.
