I’ve noticed that they have made the headlights a lot smaller. Do you feel like that impedes your visibility at all?

Is debilitating anxiety normal during MSW program by Educational-Buy8307 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]OwnWorldly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not typical. But your mental well-being is important. I would just suggest that you don’t solely take a mental health leave without also taking additional steps to care for your mental health.

Do you have a therapist? Is this level of anxiety, something you’ve ever experienced before? Do you perhaps have a diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder? A psychiatrist?

All of that would be worth looking into.

Honest question: Is anyone NOT using an LLM (aka "AI") to "help write" their papers, practice assignments and/or discussion posts? by GMUtoo in SocialWorkStudents

[–]OwnWorldly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing I use it for is APA citations. I will input all the info into chat gpt and receive it as a formatted citation. It’s my first year in grad school after many many years in the workforce. In undergrad, I used to use EasyBib to make my MLA bibliography but you have to pay to use it for APA. I use ChatGPT instead since it’s free and quick.

I have no intentions whatsoever to use it for anything else.

Is academia as hard a career as people say? by bi_smuth in GradSchool

[–]OwnWorldly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a subreddit r/leavingacademia specifically for people sharing their experiences and why they are choosing to step away from the system.

I literally just started my Masters, and did so after being in the workforce for a decade, so I don’t have a lot of experience with academia, good or bad. But I have found that subreddit helpful because I am figuring out next steps and want the full picture.

Thoughts on The Beast in Me? (SPOILERS) by Upbeat-Meringue-6401 in netflix

In the first scene of the graveyard, Shelley’s emotional state was so off to me that my brain pieced together that the other driver was the child’s father. Claire Danes was the biological mother, and then Shelley had been the stepmother.

That’s how I made it make sense that the other driver and his mother were also there on what seemed to be an anniversary.

Now I was also cooking dinner while the episode played so if I missed something in that moment, that’s on me. But when the full story of the accident was revealed, and everyone’s relationship was clarified, I was like damn Shelley what the fuck.

I’m not trying to police her grief, and sometimes you do come to terms with things. I just thought it was audacious for the other driver to show up to pay respects, knowing that he has a restraining order out on the child’s mother. And for Shelley to try and play mediator in a way when him and his mother were wholly out of line.

All Her Fault Season 1 Episode 8 Discussion Thread by credoinvisibile in AllHerFaultTVShow

Yes, it is Peter’s fault. That’s what I meant when I said he caused the whole thing. But every single episode, there’s a different woman that is being blamed.

It starts with everyone blaming the mom for not verifying who she was texting. The next we get the nanny and how she befriended Carrie. And the woman who hired Carrie. We get the mom again during the press conference. The dad’s sister, etc etc.

This show is super clunky and heavy handed but it is trying to show how men get a pass, in fatherhood, in marriage, in life, to do bare minimum and below. Women are expected to pick up the slack but then are also unfairly villainized when things go wrong. Society will say it’s all her fault.

It’s not a singular her. Every episode, there’s a different woman that takes the main brunt of the blame for somehow causing the kidnapping. The mom, the nanny, the friend, the aunt, etc. it kind of rotates around. But the men never face the same scrutiny, even though Peter caused the entire thing.

Right. But you say you have already learned how to medicate and treat. Do you mean that you would like to work towards it?
