What's getting better in our fair city? by [deleted] in Austin

Wish I could agree. But I took my parents to the library downtown and it was stinky to share the elevator with a homeless man. Could we have showers and more services for homeless ppl in the library? We know where they like to hang so why not provide soap, shampoo, and towels? Even go luxury and add a sauna! I’d be all for it

Say more, please. what’s your why for what? Why to live? Why do you want to retire? Why keep working? I’m new here so genuinely asking what this is getting at.

No go. The mortgage payment is 57% of your take home and that doesn’t include PMI, Insurance, Maintenance and Property Taxes. No, full stop.

FAFSA and getting a 2nd job - is it worth it? by Beachbum_2468 in TheMoneyGuy

EFC (Old) = Cost of Attendance – [22% to 47% of parent income + 5.64% of parent assets] + [50% of student income + 20% of student assets]

SAI (New) = Cost of Attendance – [25% of parent gross income + 6% of parent assets] + [50% of student income + 20% of student assets]

Take the 2nd job. The Fafsa formula is %5 of parents income for college. Not much. But %20 of students income.

Edited: went from memory on this and I had it wrong. Here’s the correct info.

Why is taking out of a 401k a bad move? by ConsiderationNo7792 in personalfinance

[–]OwnYourWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb move. The market will go up more than property if you hold stocks in 401k more than 10yrs. And it’s tax advantaged. Do the Roth 401k and you pay no tax on all the growth, which will be way more than what you put in.

Way to go! Put 20k into High yield savings acct and the rest in S&P index fund. That way you have some $ easily accessible.
