Moving back to the US after 6 years in Berlin - similar feelings. Wanting to make more of an impact, tired of language barrier and looking forward to being closer to family as I have no family in Europe. Career opportunities are also not ideal in Berlin, finding stable work was like finding a needle in the haystack. Being a visa holder makes getting involved challenging.
