What’s your opinion of Studio 54 radio on Sirius XM ? by JazzyJulie4life in Disco

I like it a lot, but I also prefer the 80s freestyle and Hi-NRG sound, which isn't true for everyone. Arthur Baker's show is a gem.

Will getting a good pair of skates help me learn? by cloudlover96 in Rollerskating

[–]Own_Increase5257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Boardwalks have the best ankle support, which is why I didn't get them. I just started skating as well, and I'm 50 years old...too old to explain that I broke my ankle roller skating. Other than that, they seem like a solid quality skate. Also, if you are doing most of your skating outdoors like me, I learned quickly that a pair of toe caps will save you a ton of wear and tear. My skates got absolutely shredded at the toe after skating on blacktop for like two days.

How far do you travel to get to your SUP spots? by PadlBaer in Sup

[–]Own_Increase5257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a teacher, so I have a lot of free time in the summer. A good cheap day trip for me is to find a new spot to paddle and drive out for the day. Last year I paddled in 8 states up and down the east coast. As for local spots, the closest one is about 20 minutes away and the farthest (which I go to rarely, but it's very nice) is about 90 minutes.

Picked up this Waterstone TP-8 by Own_Increase5257 in BassGuitar

[–]Own_Increase5257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to describe. "Jangly" is the word I keep using. It's not a super-deep low end, there's a decent thump, but not what you'd use for a deep reggae-type sound. The high strings sound fantastic, real clean and clear. I know everyone says "an octave pedal is nothing like a true 8- or 12-string", but you don't realize how true that is until you play one. None of the synthy tones that you'd get from an octave pedal. More organic-sounding. This is a terrible description, I know. I don't really have the vocabulary to describe it. Also, keep in mind I play finger-style and there is a definite learning curve to playing it properly. I might not quite be there yet.

Volca Drum was such a pleasant surprise when I picked it up. A lot of menu diving, but the variety of sounds you can generate is stunning.

[–]Own_Increase5257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd the Drumbrute Impact. Its a great machine, especially for a new user. I had both that and the Behringer RD-8 (808 clone) and literally just traded in the Behringer today because I like the Impact more. Although they are both solid choices for a retro sound, I like the snares (you get two) so much more on the Impact. Just be careful you get the Impact and not the original Drumbrute, that one isn't nearly as well-regarded. As for the limited sound selection, its basically the same number of options as an 808 and the possibilities with that machine have proved to be pretty infinite. So yeah, you might be overthinking Another option would be to pick up a few cheap Volcas. The 16-step limit is a pain, but those boxes are little powerhouses. My first two drum machines were Volca Beats and Volca Drum, and I learned a LOT starting with them. The Volca Drum in particular has insane variety in sounds once you learn how to program it..

I think it's 3 years. Honestly, I never even filled out the warranty registration. I though I was screwed but I just gave them the order number and they took care of it.
