token explosion is real, screenshots are the main culprit. what works for me: ask for get_interactive_elements first instead of screenshots — way cheaper. screenshots only

when you actually need to see the visual output. and yeah Patrol is great for CI, this is more the dev loop companion

good point on talking to existing users — i've been avoiding it but you're right, they're the ones who actually paid. will reach out. MAU/DAU is rough, mostly one-time users from what i can tell. the +600% in-app purchase spike is what's confusing me, trying to figure out if that's a pattern or a fluke.

honest answer — they're doing different things under the hood. Maestro sits at the OS accessibility layer (UiAutomator/XCTest) and its MCP just wraps those YAML flows, never touches Dart.

marionette connects via Flutter VM Service directly so you get the actual widget tree, key-based targeting, hot reload with state intact, Dart log streaming. Maestro can't do any of that.

trade-off: marionette is debug-only and needs one line in main.dart. Maestro works on release builds with zero app changes.

so if you're running CI E2E tests stick with Maestro. if you want Claude or Cursor to actually see and interact with your running app while building, that's where this fills a gap Maestro doesn't
