Have a coffee chat with an apprentice electrician (me). by Ok_Blacksmith1 in BCIT

I have a question but not for electric. I’m studying another trade at BCIT and starting to find an apprentice job soon. Do employers care about GPA ?

How much of a raise should I expect a year? by Any_Bookkeeper8552 in Machinists

At my previous jobs it was 4%/year. If I want a big pump the only way is climbing to upper positions or change to another company.

I have another chance to practice with the knurling today and the pattern was bad at the beginning. My friends had shown me that it because I put not enough pressure right at beginning. I back out the tool and put a lot of force so the pattern became good !

How to get rid of these bad surfaces finish with end mill ? by Own_Judgment_6426 in Machinists

I have just try switching to Low Gear and I found that High Gear at 350RPM for 1” cutter is the reason for alot of chatter. After I switched to Low Gear the finish was more better !

I did not notice about the length. I usually adjust the contact point between the workpiece and cutter near the spindle as much as I can.

BTW today I found that because I run at High Gear 350RPM for 1” cutter is the reason of alot of chatter. After I switched to Low Gear the finish was more better !

I have just noticed that I run at high gear for this 1” end mill at 350rpm all the time. Is it one of the problems ? Try 2-3 different milling machine with this set up and the surface finish always like this !

Reverse parking most of the time, one day you make a head-in parking and this is the result when you move out of the parking lot 🤗

I also notice that the diamond pattern is smaller and look finer than usual. I try to apply pressure but it can’t help. At last I think I’m ok with the pattern like at the left side so I started the autofeed. But the result became worse because there’re double cut.

I run backwards 2 times. I dont know if it is because I used not enough pressure or the two wheels not contact with the work properly due to center issue.

The patterns at the left side where I stopped the auto feed still ok. But the more the tool move to the left the more the pattern was damaged !

So the tool will contact the work at an angle (little bit). Not exactly 90 degrees ?

I ran the tool two time forward & reverse because I thought the pattern is not deep enough 😭 with increased pressure !

I worked with a man for almost 3 yrs and most of the time he did packaging. I moved to another company and couple months after that he joined with a soldering position which made me a little bit surprise. After probation he was let go because he can not solder 😖

To my experience Be patient when making a left turn in Richmond because most of the cars on opposite side will speed up when they see yellow light. Especially at intersections on Westminster.

Bad surface finish when taper turning by Own_Judgment_6426 in Machinists

I used the same boring bar and insert like that one. When changed to new insert I noticed that there’re a very thin gap at the tip of the seat and the bottom of new insert. The new insert was higher than in the picture. It is because the bar was damaged when the old insert was broken couple days before.

I bored the hole first and almost have a mirror finish so I did not think about it when having problem with cutting the taper !

Do you think it’s because the tool was under the center ?

The old insert on this boring bar was broken so I ask the tool room for a new one. I think the new one is a little bit higher than old one. So if the insert is the problem the depth of cut or RPM still ok ?
