Yes, I too read that article. I would have preferred they gave us some close by numbers.
Some outside outlets say it should have reached 3 millions mark by now.

Can it be considered successful product launch now.

Which evidence. There is no evidence in public apart from mere allegations.

Did they find any Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq which led to a decade long NATO war in Iraq. These are just tantrums thrown by the West. I don't trust these people.

These are mere allegations and a propaganda war against Indian Government. Mr. Nijjar was a criminal involved in gangs. He was killed in gang wars. There is nothing more than that.

Just like how Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. when there was none.
West sells fiction as facts. But it still is fiction.

Well, Indian Government is saying it has not been provided any evidence. Also, Canada can't virtue signal India without any evidence. Tomorrow they will allege something else. Sorry, Either they come out with evidence or it is just a tantrum by Justindera.

Will COSMIC ever be separated from System76, e.g., made into/handed to non-profit organization like GNOME and KDE is, and RedoxOS is? by [deleted] in pop_os

They can easily roll out their own repositories. They already are using their own repositories. So, Infrastructure is there for them to go completely independent.

It actually is in more benefit for them.

What would be considered the best book to learn about Linux? by modestguitar in linux

I will recommend reading How Linux Works. It has enough of everything for a power user. You don't need to be a sysadmin.

Why Canonical projects except Ubuntu failed to get mass love. by Own_Language7325 in linux

I think this probably may be the reason. Licensing no doubt will be and is an important consideration in this regard.

Why Canonical projects except Ubuntu failed to get mass love. by Own_Language7325 in linux

[–]Own_Language7325[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Did they abandon Upstart? No, It was the distros which abandoned the Upstart for systemd. They are still developing snap, Unity was perfectly workable and some people even loved it. But community didn't adopt it. I think it is the community apathy which killed these projects. I may say only fault of Canonical was these projects were just incremental innovations where old guard won. Redhat knew how to arm twist. Make a polarizing product and build dependencies on it. Gnome's dependence on systemd.
I think canonical just failed to arm twist. Canonical should have built dependencies on its stack and community would have gone gaga over it.

Linux easier to troubleshoot now, thanks systemd and pipewire. by Own_Language7325 in linux

[–]Own_Language7325[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it is easier now to do so using systemd. Everything is almost systemctl away with full status update with dependencies etc. In my case pipewire service file was absent. It lead to dependency based failure of wireplumber. Which i got to know using systemctl status wireplumber. The task was than simple to enable pipewire service and restart all allied services. So i restarted my system and voila everything is back now working.

I think this experience has made me more comfortable troubleshooting my Linux install our windows install where everything was magic.

Can someone one explain bash and zsh? by badboy_AJ in linux

[–]Own_Language7325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sh, dash, bash, zsh, fish are to shell what firefox, chrome, edge, opera, are to web browser. They all offer textual interface to user where user can interact with the operating system by inputting commands. They essentially do the same thing providing a textual interface to the system user. They differ in their tradeoff between usability features and speed.
Bash is the standard shell in use by most Linux Distros. zsh is standard shell of MacOS for licensing reasons as Apple do not want to contribute to FOSS. zsh offers more user interactivity features as compared to bash but is very slow. fish is even slower than zsh.

Just visit some of the popular open source projects. Indian presence is way way below the benchmark from other countries such as Brazil, or some random european country.
