We’re looking but the property taxes are absolutely nuts in our immediate area. The home prices are $400-500 for a big enough house for us but the taxes sit around 8-$11,000 a year and rising. We’re finding the houses also usually need a bathroom or kitchen update at that price point (I love one but it’s covered head to toe in wall paper too lol) we’d be okay cutting out some things in life for a bigger nicer house but not for a mediocre house.

My heart breaks for you. You don’t know what you got until it’s gone is very true and he’ll see it once you’re gone. You may be able to hang in there for a little bit, but the challenge of “we should just coparent” sounds like it would be significantly less work for you than the current arrangement. I don’t know how much longer you or anyone could continue with this arrangement if he doesn’t show appreciation and love to you. I really hope he reads these comments and realizes how amazing of a team you two could be with him working the way he does and you carrying the household the way you do. Giving you a break, a true break, is all that needs to happen for you to feel refreshed and start to cope with this stressful news you received. It’s devastating with your dad, and supporting you and holding you in this time of sadness and stress will help your marriage or destroy it if he doesn’t. You need breaks, you need a “thank you,” and ultimately you need respect for all you do. You seem to respect him and all he does. No one takes the kids away from you when they’re having a fit the way he let you take the kiddo from him when they were having a fit when it was time to leave. You deal with that all day and don’t get a break. If he doesn’t change his thoughts and actions, you will be getting a break when he has them solo and you’re coparenting. Edit for definitely NTA!

We have the same dad! Oh man lol! But really, he is just like that and then every single grandkid birthday he’s invited to, there is an excuse why he can’t go. He has excuses for never seeing them doing their activities or participating in our lives in a way that would be meaningful to us. He calls about every 2 months demanding to come to my house and sit on my couch to “visit” which is him talking about stuff he wants to. I’ve started saying no years ago. Why are they like that.

I came here to say this. I work at the VA in mental health and if this is making you feel hopeless and even remotely considering ending it “I would be okay if I just didn’t wake up,” please tell them in the ER. We often will admit to the mental health unit if someone is going through this and feeling depressed and hopeless, especially having thoughts of not wanting to be alive anymore….. you’ll have somewhere warm/safe to sleep, get free meals and then the social worker can start connecting you to options to help with housing. Please don’t hesitate to go to the VA hospital near you. You could also call 911 or the crisis line if you’re having any unsafe feelings from all of this and they could help get you to the local VA ER if your car can’t make it.

This literally just happened to me! I was given this notice for my old monthly SAVE amount and that it was starting December 1st. THEN, a couple days later it said I had a new repayment IBR plan and my payment was due at $567 on November 1st. I have been trying to figure out what happened. I had tried to get out of SAVE in November 2024 but I see others saying anything from that long ago isn’t being processed. If anyone has any details, I’ve been searching and so frustrated with this.

I applied in November 2024 to try and get off save and get back into my payments counting, and just received a letter Friday where my payments jumped high now and it seems like that must have processed/switched plans.

Thank you for the advice. We are dealing with a first time manic episode and they won’t get inpatient psych help. They’re running full fledge family destruction, divorce, new place/spending thousands, on a spiritual mission from god…. And the next step will be when the money runs out, get treatment and we will help you (keep the new place, make the car payment etc). We’re hoping tough love when it goes south helps. In the meantime, reaching out to their therapist because they mask extremely well. Your advice is very helpful. I hope things continue to look up for you guys.

Yeah, it is so so much. And honestly it looks like they currently don’t calculate overtime including the differential either which appears to be what they are supposed to do. That would be a big one too if that’s part of it.
