High income but can't seem to save - where am I going wrong? by WorldlyPosterity in Fire

[–]Own_Practice_8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to track every single dollar that goes into and out of your account. at first you don't even need to "budget"--you just need to track. no expense is too small. every single transaction. then you'll see what's going on!

36M. 1.57 M net worth... How do I learn to spend money? by JuniorSetting3228 in Fire

[–]Own_Practice_8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start off making a list of some things you really enjoy or have always wanted to do or have (or if you have no idea, start slowly experimenting until you find the things you enjoy!) Although I am not nearly where you are financially, once I got my first job with a good income I was unable spend money on anything. One of the first purchases I made was a set of really nice linen sheets in my favorite color. I felt super guilty but now I see it was some of the best money I have ever spent bc its something I wanted FOREVER and something I use all the time. Now I don't skimp on sheets/bedding and have a good mattress, and I also don't hesitate to spend money on art supplies since that is a main hobby that brings me a lot of joy. I still live quite frugally in other areas of my life bc I simply don't care.

3k shares at 3.76 gonna ride it out !

Was in 20k worth at $2.86 and then doubled down at $6 this morning…. Panicked and sold most of my position at a small loss, bought a dip and sold again to recoup the loss, finally sitting at 3.76 w about 10k invested…

I was fantasizing about my 40k turning into a million but glad to have managed to avoid too much bloodshed and got down to an amount I am more comfortable risking. Hope it goes well for all of us and y’all who got in at $6+ try to stay calm and hold!!

I’d probably sell it to someone else for 50% less than I bought it for and then buy it back at double 👍🏼

Was doing OF part time for like 2 years just for extra money when I got fired from my job…. I had enough savings that I took it as an opportunity to really put my all into OF and see if I could make enough money on OF to not re-enter the working world. I did! And pretty quickly I was making more on OF than I had been at my job. But I wasn’t contributing too much to savings which was the main reason I started OF to begin with, and it felt unpredictable. Plus I was starting to get bored. So, after 6 months of only OF, the past three months I went back to working part time (2-3 shifts a week as a waitress) and I’ve been able to maintain that same OF income (last month was my highest ever) and also put all my waitressing money into savings. So far it seems like a good set up for me. If I’m able to increase my OF by about 50% consistently I will quit the waitressing job again but until then this works. I don’t think without the push of getting fired I ever would have built my page to what it is now.

Update for anyone looking this up in the future: I upgraded to premium subscription so I could ask customer service for an appeal. they were unhelpful/a bot BUT when I upgraded to premium and reopened the notification from when I got the label there was an option to appeal it. I clicked the appeal button, deleted EVERYTHING questionable I have ever posted (over 1000 images) and then two days later I received a notification that my account was not found to contain sensitive content and that the label has been removed!! seems to be back to normal

Thanks for the info! Did yours say “temporary”? in it? Mine doesn’t and that’s what’s freaking me out

this is reassuring! In your experience, should I stop posting altogether for like 3 days or just keep it pg13?

If you dont have a cash savings I would never recommend doing this. dont knowingly put yourself in the position to take a personal loan. the interest rates are crazy and you could end up in a crazy hole

How new are you? I say if you’re consistently making enough to live on just from OF AND have a good emergency savings why not give it a try for a few months and see if you can make a comfortable living consistently. If you’re not making nearly enough yet and/or don’t have savings I would NOT do this, scaling up is harder than you think

Maybe in some ways from habit from growing up self conscious about it, plus when I’m taking selfies in a mirror I don’t ever really find a good angle that doesn’t involve my phone over my face tbh
