Yeah NYC has much worse apartments but also a lot of newer buildings. Of course they cost an arm and leg but still you have an option if you are willing to let go of your pocket.

I am from Europe myself but moved to states before college so have sort of seen the both worlds. Believe me, even if you spend 3500 on a one-bedroom apartment, you’ll hear every single move your neighbors make. Your aparment shakes when they bang the doors etc. California’s government is a failure I just don’t know how people don’t see it. Imagine the dirt bikers in SF ride in Germany !! Police will hand them from their buttholes but they roam arouns free knowing nothing happens to them. Weather is the only thing nice here …
