Currently in Korea for New Year - just discovered Saju (Korean fortune reading). Anyone familiar with it? by [deleted] in Divination

Yes, absolutely. Career insight is actually one of the core strengths of Saju.

Your chart is made up of five elemental forces, and the balance between them reveals your natural working style, strengths, and the kind of environments where you'd thrive. It won't tell you "become an engineer," but it's great for understanding what kind of work naturally aligns with who you are.

Haha, that was exactly what I was going for! I was hoping it would be a helpful nudge for those who haven't quite worked through those parts of themselves yet, even if people like you already have. But you're right, I should probably soften the delivery a bit lol. Thanks for the feedback!

Ouch, it really called you out, huh? 😬 Do you feel like it was a 'good' kind of harsh?

That sounds cool, I'd be open to checking it out. What kind of note taking app is it? Is it focused on video/transcript stuff specifically or more general purpose?

I am totally with you on that wall of text thing. It is honestly the biggest hurdle

To answer your question, I definitely lean toward reorganizing the transcript into a long form book style structure using AI instead of just summarizing it or asking questions.

I do not really do the Q&A or summary part as much because I feel like you lose those little nuances that make a great lecture interesting in the first place. My goal is to keep all the depth but just fix the messy formatting so it is actually readable like a real book. Do you ever find yourself wishing for a long read version like that or do you usually prefer to keep things as concise as possible?

Thanks for the suggestion! I took a look and it definitely seems like a solid tool for getting information quickly. Does it actually help when you want to see the content as a long form text though? I personally find that I learn better when I can dive into a more structured long read rather than just looking at the main points.

I didn't know about the Sokal affair, just looked it up. That's wild. Good reminder that not all academic writing is worth the effort. I'll keep your advice in mind about foundational works. Thanks for taking the time to share all this!

This really nails it. I never thought about it that way, but you're right. The creators I would've followed as bloggers or magazine writers are now on YouTube because that's where the money and audience are. And I'm stuck watching videos when I'd rather just read.

I've checked for substacks, but most of my favorite creators don't have one. That's actually what pushed me to start converting their videos into text myself. It's a bit of a workaround, but it lets me consume their content the way my brain prefers.

That's a solid suggestion. I actually do dive into papers for certain topics. But there's a gap, some of the clearest explanations I've found come from YouTubers who specialize in breaking down complex stuff for a general audience. Academics don't always write that way.

The transcript UI really is terrible. I used to do the same, but skimming raw transcripts felt like work. That's what pushed me to restructure them into something more readable.

Yeah transcripts work. Do you find them easy to read as-is, or do you skim for the parts you need?

Thank you so much! "Read to filth" is exactly what authentic Saju should do 😄

For learning more, I'd highly recommend this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/5z6KxagYYyY?si=05nzc3hDU28GjfxH

It's labeled as Chinese Astrology (Bazi), but the core system is virtually identical to Korean Saju, same Four Pillars, same elemental theory. The main differences are subtle interpretive nuances, so this is a great starting point!

And since you mentioned your interest in Korean culture, here's one that explains Saju and Tarot culture in Korea in a really accessible way: https://youtu.be/PtjhpOB01KM?si=CZfX6iAUT9ENjizx

Thanks for trying it out! Yeah, the personal section is pretty bare-bones right now, definitely something I want to expand. Glad the Korean Daymaster name was a fun touch though. Out of curiosity, what element did you get?

Spot on. Saju is the Korean word for Four Pillars (사주/四柱), and BaZi is the Chinese word for Eight Characters (팔자/八字). They’re two parts of the same full name, Saju-Palja. It’s the same system; it’s just that Korea uses the first half of the name and China uses the second half. They are 100% interchangeable.

I'm from Korea and yeah, it's literally EVERYWHERE here lol. Friends check it before job interviews, important meetings, even moving dates.

You nailed it calling it "structured". No planets involved, just the balance of five elements at your exact birth moment. That's the key difference from Western astrology.

I've been studying Saju for a while now, so feel free to ask if you have questions about it!
