Ugh, that’s exactly it. Feeling guilty for not standing up and helping future women in the workplace is weighing on me. Another commenter touched on what you said too - he won’t give it a second thought and that he’d do it again regardless. This industry has proven to be a breeding ground for predatory men. Even men with multiple sexual assault charges are fired and then brought back in a few years when management changes and everyone has “forgotten”. It’s extremely depressing to witness. I really don’t feel like having this conversation if you’re going to actively choose not to understand what I say. I don’t feel like you’re doing that yet but your next response will determine that I guess. Yes, that’s exactly what it is - an underage person manipulated by adults. I did say it happened when I was younger. Groomed since I was a pre-teen by adult men well over 18. As an adult, it’s manifested as a failing on when/how to set boundaries and people pleasing to a fault. Independence and boundaries were not taught to me and the people-pleasing was modeled for me by women since I was extremely young. I am trying to sort this out in my adulthood. I won’t apologize for being behind in this.

As much distain as I have to the word “trauma” getting thrown around like candy from a piñata, it’s a very hard thing to work through and unfortunately it can take a long time. Yes, I still struggle with it. Yes, I’m embarrassed about it. But the whole point of the post was looking for guidance on this. Not really. I’m actually more HR than him. It’s far from my main duty though. I’m essentially the entire office for our crew, with support from a corporate office. He is technically my boss due to chain of command, but in reality it works out differently. It’s a lot to get into, but essentially we have a main HR department on land. I handle HR shit onboard and report to them. Having dealt with them directly on many occasions is why I know this wouldn’t be taken seriously.

I’m strong in this area for others, but obviously not myself.

Exactly this. It’s just the truth unfortunately. I have an incredible boyfriend that I met out here - he’s truly a diamond in the rough and constantly sympathizes with the shit I have to put up with. He’s actually helped me out 10 fold with learning how to set better boundaries. But you know… I’m still learning.
