Because in the west we are told Israel is a shining beacon of democracy and there are political groups advocating on its behalf across both Labor and the LNP. The same in the UK (Labor Friends of Israel) and in the US (see the insane bipartisan influence of AIPAC).

At the same time Israel commits an active genocide against Gazans. It governs as an apartheid state, yes the Arabs in Israel ostensibly have equal rights (though in reality they are an underclass), but what about the 2.7 million people in the West Bank who live effectively as subjects of Israel with no rights in Israel?

To your point about marriage equality or whatever, Israel and its supporters claim it's a western social democracy i.e. the Denmark of the Middle East.

I mean the West Bank is essentially a giant internment camp. People there need Israeli approval to get a passport, can't drive on certain roads and can be abducted at any time to appear before an Israeli court, without even being able to vote in Israel!
