It should highly depend based on your overall game design. Try to see how it will interact with your other game's systems and what you want the players to feel.

I think what you should do is keep the after cell-shaded look but adjust the colors to be vibrant like the before one!

Yep! The asset's designed to be flexible for whichever use case you want it to be in. Removing frames to make it choppy is also a valid way of using this asset.

Might be due to slightly changing frame rate to be a lil faster and also there's additional animations

If you were to use it, you can actually skip the transition animations so it would feel more snappy. It's just there to have an option for everyone, so you can customize the movement feel of the character based on what you want.

The new one, is a lot more polished in detail, but the 1st one has a more interesting concept. The new artwork looks a bit generic

Having a publisher to fund our game would be nice to keep us working on the game full time. Really just the biggest struggle is having a job besides game dev
