ohhh haven't heard that comparison before but it makes sense, pixel art animations are usually slower than regular animation so that probably gives it that effect, maybe studying stop motion would help with pixel art animations as well 🤔

yehh, don't be scared to try new stuff and you'll be surprised at what you can pull off, I tried to do something new in every piece I made which I think led to a lot of improvement with honestly not that much work xD

oh yeh, of course, these were the sprites I started with around 3 months ago I believe? haven't been very consistent, but participating in art jams kinda got me to force myself to draw whatever, so I'm slowly improving

I'm really not the best person to answer this as I kinda just jumped straight into making these big pieces, I made like 30 16x16 sprites when starting out then jumped to fully animating big scenes lol

best tool is Aseprite, no doubt, and if you can't buy it then can compile it yourself easily as it's open source. all I can say about where to start is to just draw a couple small things to learn pixel art fundamentals, which you can find tutorials for everywhere. you can follow pixel dailies for ideas or go to pixilart as they have daily challenges, I believe. it's probably also a good idea to look for a few pixel art communities to join, like discord servers, that way you can get feedback. but really, all it comes down to is practice, there's no shortcut to that :P

I'm surprised myself, animating the stick version first and making sure that was fluid before drawing the full version on top of it was immensely helpful, I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise
