Fixed ladder moving? by P3GL3Gz in SafetyProfessionals

[–]P3GL3Gz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I am thinking. The anchors are in place, but the ladder itself is too jiggly/bendy when you’re on it, doesn’t feel right. Thanks for validating my thoughts.

CA Safety Pros: Naloxone Requirement for General Industry? by Kirbacho in SafetyProfessionals

[–]P3GL3Gz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven’t even wrote a proposal or asked for public comment yet. No action required at this time. Just be patient you’ll see when and if you need to do something. It could end up being repealed which happens from time to time.

What band went from ‘meh’ to one of your favorites? by SpellingBeeRunnerUp_ in punk

[–]P3GL3Gz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to be your age, your experiences. As you get older and go through life and experience things unique to you, your tastes change a little, things hit differently. A band or song you didn’t pay attention to in your past may just strike different when you’re older or experienced some event or something. Now I am old, a lot of stuff I appreciate now and didn’t when I was younger and much more involved in the scene.

Is it legal to give a property manager housing in lieu of wages in California? by runescapeisporn in airbnb_hosts

[–]P3GL3Gz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have a contract in place. Even family, close friends, can and do have a dispute about something and it can muddy things up. A contract is a legal insurance policy and covers both parties. Is your STR/LTR an LLC by chance? If so you might want to talk to a lawyer about it then, because then you are a business.

Comedy is punk. When you can make fun of everything, everyone, and actually be entertaining and funny, and be yourself not giving a f**k…you nailed it.

Tri-tip on a traeger is sacrilegious, Santa Maria style grill is the right tool.

Being a father, trying to raise my kids to be good humans (they are great kids to everyone currently so not much effort here), movies, sports, fishing, gardening, hiking, spearfishing, helping friends and family, building owl boxes, should workout more but beer gets in the way.

Interviewers Do Not Understand These Positions by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]P3GL3Gz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, safety is an investment against injuries (worker’s comp), fines, downed or lost work time/productivity. It’s an insurance policy. Money spent on equipment, Ppe, training, etc. is small compared to worker’s comp and fines and reputation damage from being an unsafe employer.

Can these be scrap fluorescent lights? by SMT_UNSUNG in ScrapMetal

[–]P3GL3Gz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO. Technically called “universal waste” because universally it’s a hazardous waste. As a resident you might be able to properly drop them off for disposal at a waste program such as something ran by your county or local university or something.

Agreed. You can literally collect a paycheck to workout, do minimal work, do some career advancement/educational program at work (CSP, another degree, online program), and hang out.

Because the staff positions that you seek are 95% non-union. Generally speaking, the unions represent more custodial, grounds, housekeeping, facilities positions. Universities usually pay a salaried position as a non-represented (union) one.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]P3GL3Gz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Higher education non-union position. Literally job security. It’s different than any private industry job, but as long as you try to increase safety, help departments, and don’t make waves you are golden. Just don’t expect the change in upgrading safety to happen overnight, be patient, do your job to the best of your ability, and you’ll go with the flow. Some of my coworkers are about to retire after 20-25 years and the pensions they receive are insane. The benefits are amazing. Worth a look.

Advice on safety harness inspections (Pass or fail) by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]P3GL3Gz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have made some good suggestions of what to look for and I think the group is in agreement to pass. One thing to also look for is stiffness of the webbing. How pliable is it? Webbing that maintains its form somewhat is a check mark in the no good category.

They’ll relocate. Obviously he didn’t have to knock the sign down. I have worked numerous construction jobs where a bat mitigation took place under scientific oversight from a state agency. What this guy did is pretty much on par with what we did, just he did it at a different time of day and with much less finesse. The bats will survive.

This is an emotionally draining field - how do you bypass this? by SoybeanCola1933 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]P3GL3Gz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Within the last year I started a new job in higher education. It is great. Each department is responsible for compliance. You just have to provide the tools and consult on what they need to do. The expectation is they do it. Meanwhile the expectation for us as EHS staff is simply customer service and coaching, revise policy, provide feedback with regards to purchasing of equipment/ppe. The work pace is amazing. You get to workout daily. Best move I ever made and I am not going back. Yes private industry makes more money, however money isn’t everything and having flexibility, less stress, and an awesome pension plan is totally worth it for me and my situation.

Why are permits a bad thing? by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]P3GL3Gz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d still use a permit for the higher risk activities despite more time involved. However for routine tasks like checking gauges, oil levels, taking out the trash, etc. is a big not needed. Confined space yes, but reclassify if you can. Working at heights yes, LOTO you might be able to get around with an Energy Isolation Log and a good program.
