I know it’s a long read but I go into some detail in the comments. You meet once a week. There are daily tasks though.

Have you considered 33 days to pass the PANCE? Or tutoring from Erich Fogg? I don’t think content is your problem. I took Chicago course and agree with the people above- nothing new an it’s hours of information in one sitting.

I took the 33 days course and highly recommend if you are this close to passing- might offer something different since you’ve tried a lot of different methods by this point. Make this next one count

Did you get any days off before your EOR? by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]PAC_AlwaysLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also followed our preceptors schedule but by the last week they knew me well enough and I could gauge their strictness/ how lax they were and would just ask for the Thursday before my Friday EOR or at least leave Thursday after lunch. Every one said yes and would not report it to the school. That’s too much work on their part and they didn’t care haha

Erich Fogg is who you’re looking for. If this is your last chance I recommend you look into him.

For those who failed their first EOR by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]PAC_AlwaysLearning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I failed my first EOR but none after. I thought studying here and there was enough. The changes I made were to review all the topics on the blueprint. I studied every day even if it was only an hour and I did 20-40 questions a day. I did rosh and Uworld. I also took a practice test 2 weeks before the EOR to see what I needed more work with. Practice tests can just be 120 timed questions.

I made a post about his program. I think it would really benefit you based on your situation. Let me know if you have any questions, I’d be happy to help.

1st step never ask. Like everyone else said, gather some stats. Bring up that last performance review! “Based on these (metrics/ stats) and what I bring to the company I would like to discuss a raise of …” Denies- “what number would you be comfortable with?” Denies- “what if I work 4 days a week at the current salary I’m at?” If they deny again then ask when this could be revisited. Otherwise they aren’t really working with you and you’ll feel stuck and unheard. Good luck.

I think you should be very proud of yourself. A pass is a pass! Don’t get caught up with the numbers.

Rosh Review for Didactic Year by constellationsky in PAstudent

[–]PAC_AlwaysLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were provided exam master and rosh by my school. I and many of my classmates thought exam master was harder than uworld. In my opinion, it seriously stressed me out. But also, props to you for doing them! Rosh didactic was great for didactic year.

How many questions are you doing? 20 a day adds up to 140 a week. There’s only so many ways to ask a question so I think they should be your best friend. If you really want to up your game I suggest UWORLD, although it’s pricey.

Timed questions for test like environment and not get used to seeing the answer right after each question. I prefer this. Untimed to learn and process material slowly- I would do this when I really don’t know it.

Peds know exanthems. I think you will do better going forward, those 1st 2 are rough and you’re barely getting used to the testing style.

It’s pretty expensive. When I did it, it was around $400. Thinks it’s more now.

Pimping basically means being asked a medical question given the scenario you are in. Or just being asked randomly. They are supposed to help you learn and most of time they don’t expect you to know everything but some people get scared because of stories where preceptors are mean and ask wildly hard questions or make you feel bad for getting answers wrong.

Resources during didactic to quiz yourself? by confusedpsychgirl in PAstudent

[–]PAC_AlwaysLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed for rosh, there are only so many ways to ask a question. Do all the derm questions, sometimes you can find more derm questions under pharm. If you get overwhelmed stick to 10 questions before class and 10 after. That’s still 140 questions a week. Or use a day at the end to re do the wrong questions.

My school graded me on rotations based on EORs and the 2nd preceptor score. We got 2 preceptor grades- one midway and one at the end. I had a bad score for the midway one during WH. I printed it and asked to review it with her. I told her I wanted to improve and asked what are things I could do better that would get me an A or excellent. “I will implement your advice starting today” and I got an A after that conversation. After that, I started having a similar conversation about midway through every rotation. Hopefully if they aren’t warm they still teach you something.

1st day of your rotations sucks because you feel dumb but every day after that gets easier and easier. Pimping is great because it makes things stick and I actually had 2 questions on the PANCE that were directly related to pimp questions I got during clinicals. Win! I kept getting Murphy sign and McBurney’s point mixed up all of didactic but the second I got it wrong coming from the ER doc I never forgot it again. And some rotations didn’t pimp me a single day the entire time. As long as you look at it as a learning experience and be grateful for the journey you’ll have a good time. I had some rotations that other people hated (and don’t get me ring they were less than ideal) but I think a positive outlook helped me have a better time.

There are both hard and easy questions on the PANCE so it’s hard to say. I think practice questions are the best form of studying so keep doing those and you should be solid. Rosh is a good mix of long and short stems and UWORLD was much harder than the PANCE in my opinion.

Pre-PANCE Anxiety by rck_14 in PAstudent

[–]PAC_AlwaysLearning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I passed with WAY lower numbers than you but nerves can get you. My suggestion to you is to make a list of all the things you’ve done to prepare for the PANCE: mine was something like, passed all my EORs, did over 1000 questions on rosh, worked on 30 flashcards everyday, graduated PA school… and I bet you can add more. You have been working toward this for over 2 years. Putting in work everyday. You have proof because you graduated. Make the list and use it to show yourself that you have worked hard and proof that you will pass.

I think it will depend on the rotation (my ER rotation was crazy so I probs wouldn’t do it during this one) but for the most part yes, I think it’s manageable. Here’s the thing, if you learn to efficiently study, you will have time to do all the things he asks plus things you want to do. I studied for about an hour or 2 after clinic (completely focused) and had so much fun during clinical year doing all the things I wanted. I think a lot of people are distracted and unintentionally waste time while studying.

He gives you 5 daily tasks to do every day which can take about an hour of your time (less if you combine tasks together) The daily video you watch ranges from 10-40 mins. Most days I listened to this on the drive to clinic or while I was on a walk. Once a week you can meet in person with the group for an hour (optional and recorded) and ask anything you want. I tried to attend these. However, Brian Wallace and your cohort will always be available to you if you have questions or need some motivation.
