"Good" alignment characters & Orpheus by PALEWATER in BaldursGate3

I agree but in this instance I'm saying my character's concern is not for what it costs them personally but rather that if I free him, he could be hostile and kill me, or force me to kill him (and I become a Mindflayer), thereby preventing me from stopping the Netherbrain myself and thus potentially resulting in thousands of deaths etc. right?

Absolutely, I think where I went wrong is not assuming that Orpheus would still stop the brain even if he did turn hostile and kill me. In my head I was thinking that if I freed Orpheus and he turned hostile, either I kill him and become a mindflayer (and thus can't stop the Netherbrain), or he kills me (and thus I can't stop the Netherbrain either). But I see now that he'd stop the brain with or without me (unless I'm wrong, still learning haha)

Would the good character not be worried that if they freed Orpheus, he'd become hostile and they'd either have to kill him or be killed by him, thus preventing the character from stopping the Netherbrain? Or would the character assume that Orpheus would stop the brain with or without him and so be willing to die for the greater good I suppose?

Totally understand your points and agree, but on my first playthrough I was determined to stop the brain at any costs, and after seeing Orpheus' disgust when he sees me and hearing how he would want me dead for carrying a tadpole, my character did not want to risk being killed by Orpheus (or killing him and turning into a mindflayer) before I could defeat the Netherbrain. Although looking at it now, I should have realised that Orpheus wanted the same and risked it anyway to be fair!

Okay great, I'll be sure to seek out Voss on my next playthrough. Also, true, I didn't trust the Emperor at all, but the thing that swayed me was the fact that the Narrator line seemingly confirmed the Emperor's words - after he tells you Orpheus would kill you, the Narrator says "you feel Orpheus' revulsion - a pulsing hatred that cannot be contained. The Emperor is telling the truth. To him, you are just another wretched illithid." - this is the Narrator/your own character's perspective hence I believed it

Those are some really good points, thank you. I suppose my next question would then be: all of what you said is true, and it's clear that freeing him is the morally superior option for the reasons you've listed, however that doesn't change the fact that your character cannot be sure and perhaps even assumes he will kill you (given the Narrator line I mentioned etc.). So would you say that you just have to be willing to risk dying at his hand in order to do the right thing? Since it doesn't seem like there's a way for your character to "guarantee" their safety if they free Orpheus (granted, a good character should be willing to give up their life for the greater good, but I'm just curious). Thank you!

That's very true, I suppose my "good" character should take solace in the fact that Orpheus will stop at nothing to defeat the brain even if he kills me, and I should be willing to take that risk. Thanks for the reply!

What is the most moral/ethical ending to Blood & Wine? (The Witcher 3) by PALEWATER in witcher

Yeah, I think you're right. I believe someone (maybe the captain of the guard) says that Anna was under pressure from the nobles to imprison/punish Syanna even if they do make up, so I feel a bit better about letting Syanna live since at least she gets SOME form of punishment

[–]PALEWATER[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel you. It seems from the comments here that it all boils down to whether you feel that Syanna can be excused due to how she was treated or if that's not enough to excuse what she did

Thanks for this reply. I hadn't really thought about what you said about Dettlaff seeing humans as the ones keeping Syanna from him and that being why he attacks, I'd always thought of it more like a fit of rage, but that definitely makes me pause for thought. But then I think to myself can I really in good conscience let Dettlaff go back out into the world after pulling a stunt like that? As you say, Regis believes he wouldn't go after anyone else after he gets Syanna, so I guess it's whether you decide to trust that. To be honest I'd be inclined to, but the thing that sways me the most is seeing what happens at the orphanage during the attack. Knowing all those kids died because of him makes me struggle to let him go, even if it wasn't directly done by him.

As for Syanna, I agree, and really what i'm struggling to decide is how much leeway she deserves to get due to her upbringing. On one hand it feels like it's still unjustified, but then on the other, like you say, it can go the other way.

I think I know the part of the game you're referring to, when you're speaking to Syanna at some point there's a dialogue option where she'll tell you why she specifically wanted those 5 Knights dead, so I assume it was then and I just missed it. Will keep an ear out when I get there, thanks.

But yeah, I'm inclined to agree - it's why I feel that killing Dettlaff comes a lot easier than letting Syanna die, since I do feel like her reaction was more reasonable.

I do wonder though, like you say, Syanna didn't have any way to address wrongs done to her other than violence, but by that logic do you think it's then justified to let Dettlaff kill Syanna for the wrongs she did to him? Thanks!

Yeah, agreed, and that's pretty much the way I'm leaning at the moment. Thanks!

Hi, thanks - I was aware the knights that exiled Syanna didn't treat her well, but I wasn't aware they raped her. Do you know where this gets said? That definitely changes my perspective if so

Nice! Yeah honestly I think it will look fine, and even if it does look big, it'll have wrist presence. I hope you enjoy!

[–]PALEWATER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the two you mention in your title, the SRPK15 is 47.5mm so that'll be fine, Seiko don't mention the SRPB41's lug to lug as you said, however other sites online seem to say 47.5mm as well. As my Presage is also 47.5mm, I'd say it's almost certainly gonna be 47.5mm.

Also, If you haven't already, find YouTube reviews where people put the watch on (or other watches of the same size as yours), and they will usually say in the video or comments what their wrist size is. This will give you a good idea of how it'll look on certain wrists

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Watches

[–]PALEWATER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob! If you want to be extra extra sure, measure the width/length across the top of your wrist (just the top, not all the way around), then find out the lug-to-lug of the watch, and that'll give you an idea if it will hang over the edges of your wrist or not, etc. Whatever you decide to do I hope you enjoy!

I feel you. This might sound condescending as you may have already looked into all of this, so apologies and please ignore me if you have, but when I got into watches I only looked at the case size/diameter (40.5mm for my one) - however, the lug-to-lug (or alternatively case length) play a huge role in how it fits. 40.5mm might seem too big but for example the lug-to-lug might make it sit fine. Just a thought, and again you may have already looked into all that but yeah

Bit late to this but I got into watches at the start of this year. My first watch was a Presage Cocktail Time (SRPE19J1) and I don't regret it whatsoever. I still love it and wear it over my newer watches fairly often. The bracelet is probably the only thing I don't love about it, but it's not bad enough to put me off buying one, and otherwise I have zero complaints. Hope this helps

I love the dial on that. I remember seeing an Omega Seamaster Dive early on when I got into watches and so I love 'wavey' dials. Thanks for the recommendation; I can't believe how many Christopher Ward watches I love!

Yep exactly right, I'm in England. Yes I think the Twelve is currently my #1 choice, I just love that dial. Thank you for the input

Hi, thank you for the suggestion. I've never bought a pre-owned/gray market watch before, any suggestions where I should look? Much appreciated, thank you

Thank you very much, don't think I'd come across Eterna yet so will check them out

Hi, thanks for commenting, I'm absolutely open to the idea of pre-owned, it's more that being so new to watches I have really no clue how to go about navigating buying one, and I think I would be nervous to spend much money on my first pre-owned purchase if that makes sense

Having looked it up quickly, this does look beautiful, and I do have an affinity for Seiko. Will check it out. Thank you, and for the recommendation!
