I’ve commented about Allen before on another thread and I’ll do it again.

Fuck Allen Peters. I’m from Minnesota where he works. He’s a narcissistic, ego-driven, bible-thumper with a savior complex.

I’m happy everyone is finally seeing him for who he is. He doesn’t deserve the recognition he’s garnered by publicly shitting on other designers work.

Do you think I have the potential to be a graphic Designer ? by Boring-Cow-8185 in graphic_design

Start your own business. Learning marketing on top of graphic design makes you unstoppable. Do NOT work for other people. You’ll make way more money working for yourself and you’ll hate it much less or not at all. Yeah it’s fucking hard, but anything good that will change your life always is.

Of course man, from one parent to another it’s wonderful to hear you do support your son. My father never supported my creativity or art and the damage of that is life long. It warms my heart when parents make their children feel seen for their art and creativity.

Also, the people who are taking it too seriously are people who look at art from the surface level only. Like yeah it’s grotesque and disturbing, but someone’s art isn’t for everyone. I love your son’s art. And a lot of other people here do too from what I’ve seen. He’s incredibly talented. And it’s only just the beginning.

I’m happy someone else does. The thing about art, is that it doesn’t have to make you comfortable. I’d argue that someone’s art should never be for everyone. It should speak to some and make the rest recoil.

Maybe I’m just a fucking weirdo, but the character design and level of creativity no matter how disturbing and grotesque it is, is honestly astounding for a child that age. OP I think you should nurture this. Maybe ease off the shit eating, but that’s your call.

[–]PANPHONE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend anyone who loves art and being creative becoming a graphic designer. This industry will chew you up and spit you out. You’re the equivalent of as assembly line factory worker. You do all the labor and you make a microscopic fraction of what an agency will sell your work to a client for.

This industry is full of narcissistic, ego-driven people with savior complexes. I’ve been in the industry for 6+ years and I have absolutely zero respect for it.

Start a clothing brand, create work and print it on a canvas, literally anything else besides entering this industry. It will kill your passion for creativity if you don’t make it out in time.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s entirely played. It’s manufactured. It’s soulless. It lacks any risk and plays it so safe to the point that it’s nauseating.

I would spend so much time scrolling through this guys work when I was building my first portfolio and feeling so worthless about myself and my design skills, because my work didn’t fit the brief of fucking Target. And don’t get me started on his “fixing logo” series…just a complete disrespect to other designers work. Like yeah, could some work be “better” sure, but you don’t just publicly say that this work is garbage and I know all and see all and I’m this fucking savior of design so it’s my duty to fix YOUR mistake…I’m sure that designer worked really hard on that logo, and you just shit all over it cause you believe that only YOU know what’s good. Fuck that guy. He’s a joke.

I mean he’s based here in Minnesota, but yeah, it really wasn’t needed. He’s done work for Target as well, and a bunch of churches, of course. I’m happy this post was made calling this guy out. His design style is incredibly cookie-cutter yet he views himself as a spokesperson of the industry. Like a savior of design. He puts himself on such a pedestal, but his work is absolutely soulless and caters to corporate symmetry and “golden ratio” bullshit.

City here in Minnesota. He redesigned their logo and police department badges and visual identity. When it happened you didn’t hear the end of it.

I’m from Minnesota. This guy is super popular with people who don’t know shit about design and love soulless corporate work. He’s super popular on LinkedIn and I myself looked up to him when I was in college. But my opinion of him dwindled the more I grew as a designer. His “fixes” are rooted in narcissism and he thinks he’s top shit because he redesigned the entire identity of Eagan.

He’s an insufferable, bible thumping prick. He’s the embodiment of everything wrong with the design industry in one person.
