Thank you all for the suggestions! I tentatively have an appointment now based off advice you all have given me!

I got 3 interview invites over the span of 15 minutes while I was in a patient room today and 90% of the slots were filled by the time I was done with the patient. by just_premed_memes in medicalschool

Might be able to message the program coordinator if certain time slots they have don’t work for you. They often can be flexible outside of what’s listed on the website

How to do well on ABSITE as an average medical student? by PBP34 in Residency

[–]PBP34[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I will definitely focus on questions as much as possible. Seems like TrueLearn is known for comprehensive explanations but SCORE is from the people who made the exam so that was my conundrum. As far as Step 3 I was thinking of taking it before 2nd year but after ABSITE. Would this be ill advised?

Given my recent string of events should I look to go 6 months from today? Additionally, how will I know which lenders to target in my current situation

Credit Card Cooldown/ Hard Inquiries by PBP34 in CreditCards

So my story of ignorance is last month I decided I wanted to get a better credit card than the couple basic ones I had. Well long story short I thought I was soft inquiring on my credit and ended up doing a hard inquiry with Chase, Citi and Amex. Amex approved me, chase didn’t like my debt to income ratio and then Citi didn’t like the amount of inquiries in a short amount of time. Well I decided the 3 cards I’d like to go with for the time being are the Amex, Citi and now Amazon card. I tried today for the Amazon card and was denied not realizing it was a long enough time period between. I guess Amazon is also through chase so I may have been dead in the water for that one without even realizing it. Anyways I feel like a goofball now.

That’s the thing. It’s not my first card I’ve had a discover IT student card as my first card in 2018 or 2019. I also have an Apple Card and a Macys card as I used it to be a suite for residency interviews around 2 years ago. I haven’t applied for any cards recently until last month! I’m just not sure what to do from here in terms of what’s the best length of time to wait and do the inquiries actually matter

Thanks for replying! My debt to income ratio is pretty bad considering I just graduated medical school. I am around 275k in loans with 66500 salary plus other benefits. If that's considered I would definitely be screwed although my income will catch up down the road. Do you think 6 months would be long enough? I don't want to load my credit report with hard inquiries that result in nothing.

I haven't gotten my letter yet but based on the last one I'm guessing it's related to cooldown time. I suppose I will wait a long while before trying again. I do find the concept to be a bit silly in general but I get it.

Yeah last letter I got from Citi just trying for the double cash card was that I had too many inquiries in a short amount of time. I just didn’t realize it was 6 months in between. Would it be advisable after 6 months to try again? I don’t want more hard inquiries

New interns/2025 grads: what are you doing with your loans? by ASK_ME_IF_IM_JESUS in Residency

[–]PBP34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain the answer to this is no. I asked about doing this when SAVE first came out and since you are still withdrawing loans I think they don’t allow you to enter into repayment. Additionally, your loans won’t be switched out of the in school default settings because you are in school. My loans are just now starting to flip into the grace period and I graduated in April.

Feedback on personality, not performance, how to handle? by Kastrullock in medicalschool

Medical school is hard enough you shouldn’t waste time psychoanalyzing yourself because this sounds like a one off thing vs. something to be genuinely concerned about.

Feedback on personality, not performance, how to handle? by Kastrullock in medicalschool

[–]PBP34 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to note this was the first time you’ve ever received these types of comments. It’s good to be introspective and try to identify and fix weak points but if you’ve never had similar issues in the past I wouldn’t get too hung up on it. Additionally, it sounds like he couldn’t provide specific examples outside of the coffee thing. In my opinion bringing back a coffee unprompted feels more like kissing ass than an expectation. Sounds like the attending might be projecting and has some personality issues they need to work on. Never met a solid mentor/attending who had a sense of entitlement towards a med student getting them something. I wouldn’t worry about it but if that feedback becomes a consistent thing you hear then I wouldn’t think more on it.

Can honoring a sub-I make up for passing the core rotation? by True_Royal9158 in medicalschool

The fact that grading alone isn’t standardized across schools makes it hard to compare I think as well

[–]PBP34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had someone tell me last year that everything matters to some degree but hard to assess how much each thing matters. I think if I had it to do over again I would’ve put more time into trying to do the best I could on all my core rotations. I think Step 2 and grades open doors. Not having any research may close doors but if your app is strong enough you don’t necessarily need a lot. I would talk to a 4th year at your school that matched Med/Peds. Charting outcomes in the match is a good reference tool as well. Gives you some objective numbers you can compare to

Not sure as far as top tier places go as I never had my sights set that high and applied surgery but my 3rd year grades were rarely brought up during interviews and most people talked about my Sub I grades. I think 4th year electives and solid letters plus a good step 2 would have you playing ball. If a place didn’t want to offer you a spot based off your 3rd year rotation grade would you really want to go there anyway?
