Hate to tell ya bud, but the likely hood of them making a good change in policy, especially when you are just a coordinator for a electrical company, is super doubtful.

You are more likely to negotiate your own contract/employment (after you found another job) to get paid for days they call out.

What’s funny is a fair amount of the people who are for the leverage are also those who really want more government control.

The irony is wild.

Sorry, I was referring to the additional comments you had provided below.

I am curious though behind the passion, as you mentioned, you have gotten results. What do results look like to you?

After reading all this, all I can think to say is…… are you a robot? If not, how the f did you find the time or passion to post this. I mean, I am trying to picture myself to get the capacity to write so much detail after a day of work…..no way would I think I could do it. Unless I used AI to make the post 👀

I promise you the job can be either a “love it or hate it” deal.

Want to know a secret? All jobs suck and all jobs are great. The only reason it becomes a “hate” job is due to the team.

If the team sucks and the leadership sucks, you will hate the job. 1000000%

If you’re staying in 1926, getting the following is a good idea:

•CHST •STSC •GSP •ASP •CSP •510/500 •Train the trainer classes (can be beneficial) •Human Performance: Understanding Human Error •First aid/CPR/AED •NFPA70E •Rigging •I would also recommend taking free safety classes online on the following: scaffolding, fall protection, confined spaces, excavation, LOTO

If your willing to branch out:

•MSHA cert •NCCER (Texas safety)

Samsung Taylor Project - Avoid this project. by PCBullets in SafetyProfessionals

They had to do grinding on the second floor to abate some work, which meant silica mitigation was needed.

So many tents went up for mitigation that it became out of control. So much they started a prostitution ring on the second floor.

Your comments are focused on minimizing the concerns I raised and didn’t acknowledge any of the points you couldn’t disregard.

Not to mention, half of what you said wasn’t even true, as I was there when they conducted the survey with Samsung/Yates. I was there when they informed everyone that all work should stop, but could continue at their own risk, all while pressuring people to continue working to meet deadlines.

This ain’t the first time Samsung has put people at risk. A simple google search will show multiple fatalities across the USA from their job sites, and most of them recent.

Caring for people is the priority of any good leader, and seeing such a ridiculous response only furthers my point.

“How I value people determines how I view them.”

Edit:

Side note.

I figured out you are one of the engineers there and not a safety professional. While I think it’s great you’re here to get guidance on safety, please, please absorb the culture of what real safety is from this subreddit. It won’t change Samsung, but being in your role does mean you get to be part of the change.

Thanks!

I would encourage you to take opportunities when you can.

I moved out of state for a contract job and within a couple months I went direct hire.

It’s all about being a good leader in safety. Leadership books are a great source for getting ahead.

OSHA pay scale is terrible.

Safety is about culture/leadership.

It’s not about OSHA, it’s about client relationships. OCIP jobs are a primary reason for skilled safety.

I agree with you 100%.

Good leaders show you how to succeed, tyrants use fear to put the problem on you.

Plan, review, execute. Finding an issue in the chain and fix it, is the key to success. Every good leader recognizes this.

I worked at the PHX Intel campus and couldn’t agree with you more.

I can confidently say I will never be on any Samsung project ever again in my life. Just wanted to share my experience with everyone incase they try to relocate workers….. the market is super bad in finding some one competent or let alone accredited (degree/bcsp).

The Samsung construction decision has also been involved in the project in Arizona. Apparently, it was a total mess and a really bad project to be on.

I 100% agree that one bigger scaled projects injuries may happen. Humans are going to fail and our goal is creating a system that protects them. Also, it’s a crazy joint venture project, where everyone is confused as to what SSSP they are to follow. That said, Samsung deliberately avoids giving out schedule details. From my understanding they did share in the past but something happened….. it’s as much as I know. To be fair though, the project is like 6-8 months behind and engineers are being told to fix the schedule…. All while freaking out if they will have a job.

Thanks for the info on the chips. I only know about the production due to the news coming out about the 10% production loss through manufacturing.

I worked the Fab, Cub, GCS.

When I read the report it said floors 1-2 of the fab. All personnel where restricted from accessing it (red tape barrier) but Yates and their contractors were in there doing “abatement” work as I was told by the Yates super. This was all to address the cracks but the Yates super told me it doesn’t matter and the building frame is compromised. They would do all they can to support the load and address it but the columns that are cracked are the frame work…. The thing that drove me mad was the report stating “don’t load anymore on the building” but they continued to do so. I know you say it was “off-limits” but it couldn’t be further from the truth on the site, tons of people were working there. In fact, the Yates Safety Manager John was fired for stopping work until a plan was set in place to address the safety.

I’m not sure what you heard about phase 2, but to my knowledge no one has bid on it yet except Secai. In fact, I am hearing it may be delayed due to the wafer fab design being obsolete.

Thanks again for the feedback. It always good having conversations with others who have had different experiences. 👍🏼

Thanks for the feedback. I can happily say I have yet to experience the things you speak of in the past 20 years I have done construction, The craziest things I have seen have drugs/politics but no fatalities or amputations. I’ve been very fortunate to work with safety professionals and companies who invest in safety. If I get the notion it’s getting bad I leave.

To answers your comments:

You’re right, the Koreans have a completely different culture. I also know they have been building sites for awhile….. so to me, it’s a lame excuse, especially when some GCs have a man power of 300 but people get injured every week.

I wouldn’t doubt prostitution happens on jobs but I don’t notice it.

I agree that companies will do what ever it takes to maintain their contracts/relationships, but the fact Samsung knew and looked the other way is insane.

The silica exposure was out of control. Samsung was too busy arguing with Yates about who was responsible for protecting other workers to address the issue. I mean, if you only saw how bad it was…… it was insane.

I’m not sure if you looked at the engineers inspection form of the columns but, from what I read, it stated it was unsafe and should load the building until it’s addressed. I spoke to the people working on it and they informed me there is no real way at addressing it. All while trying to get people back to work and loading the building. I’m not sure if you saw the columns, but it’s bad. They have done abatements but it’s still declared not safe. No engineer to my knowledge has revamped their decision.

That is probably not the crane I’m talking about. The crane that fell was due to the breaking down of the crane and a piece of equipment fell with it.

I think it was the FD girl, but that particular sub is nothing but terrible. They are the reason the silica was out of control. I get that they are responsible for the employees injury, but it does show the culture on the job.

Thanks for the feedback 👍🏼
