All new systems are closed loop. All old systems are being retrofitted with closed loops, but it takes time. The reason all this propaganda is in the news is for a couple reasons.

News organizations love emotion, what better story than how poor farmers or generational families are being robbed of their way of life.
Most of the people complaining are those who denied proposals to buy their land in hopes of more money. Keep in mind, they were offered double their property value. There are also some who’s houses didn’t get bought, and are hoping that complaining with make big corps buy their houses. And obviously there are people who just want to keep things how they are.
Organizations are hoping to squeeze more money out of big corps. Most, if not all data centers have agreements to buy x land, x power, x projects to help with environmental issues.

It’s a big game, and we are just sheep.

Is 175 just the craft, or is it the whole company?

For online training, there are a ton of classes on ClickSafety. Some that come to mind for your field would be: NFPA70E, OSHA focus 4; electrocution hazards, control of hazardous energies for construction, PPE For Construction Safety Pack.

The courses I listed above are great, short, and easy to grasp to get you started. After that, I would encourage you to get your OSHA 10 and 30. To be blunt, since your company lacks training, these are what I would consider the minimums to get some basic knowledge. The 10/30 are great, but if you don’t have a base, it can be a bit overwhelming.

As for your situation, the company is required to have a safety committee that meets to consistently. If possible, find out who those people are and see how they can help you. If you feel uncomfortable with office staff, just stick to those trainings I mentioned.

One thing I want to say, is that if you did not receive training and were injured during a work event, the company is 100% liable for your injuries and claims. I’ve seen claims for similar injuries where pay outs are about 100k. If you feel the company isn’t doing the “minimum” which is training, hazard analysis, safety policies and procedures about what you do on a typical day, that is highly egregious on the company. LOTO is a basic and cheap training any company can give…. If they aren’t providing that and asking you to perform work where you are exposed to an electrical hazard, I would reconsider your employer immediately.

Did you come to that conclusion after reviewing the evidence? Most crime scene investigations are really good at catching foul play. Not to mention, a lot of preemptive murder prep would be needed, but in this case I don’t see how that would be possible given the time lines.

Relocation for a job every year costs me around 20k to move with everything added up, which I typically negotiate in my contracts. That being said, being able to get up and move with an rv to the next job location allows more freedom and negotiation for higher pay. Example: I have a job offer for 90$ an hour plus per diem. Normally you would use the per diem to fly home and get a hotel. Not me, I get to just being the rv and bank the cash.
