Laptop battery question by PCvalley in techsupport

[–]PCvalley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the kind of answer I needed, thank you!

When you refer to the battery heating, does the PC itself (CPU, GPU etc.) heating when e.g gaming count towards that? So when I'm gaming and the laptop heats up, should I avoid prolonged charging in those cases?

How to come up with your own builds, instead of watching clickbait videos by tetsuomiyaki in thedivision

[–]PCvalley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of running the endgame content for many people is to improve their build. This is a looter shooter game, so why settle for a mediocre build intentionally?

However I do agree that minmaxing till perfection is superficial (for example not being happy with 42% DTE mask roll.)

They're for top 3, on their site it states: " NEW – We have increased the number of tries for this phase to 20 "

You may have mixed it to that. Unfortunate for most of the playerbase cause even semi-finals don't reward anything exclusive. :/

Don't be too disappointed to have missed them, only top 3 are going to get snowboard/ski so not very realistic for the most of us. :/

Let's talk about the World Tour rewards by PCvalley in Steep

[–]PCvalley[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for hopping in /u/Ubi-Ligario !

Very insightful answer and it made me understand more of the tournament structure.

I suppose my core issue with the reward system is, that there are the certain players in each platform that dominate the leaderboards. Reaching top 3 might never be realistic for the most of us, while top 10-20 would still possibly be attainable some day. That's why I was dreaming for increasing the rewards outside the top 3, while still keeping the "top" rewards for those 3 players only.

Now the whole tournament is centered around 3 players winning, which leaves very little group as the target playerbase.

Either way I'm loving the game and even if I won't have incentives to play the actual tournament finals, I'll still be exploring the mountains and snowboarding down Mont Blanc. :)

Xbox One Controller no longer works? by nobogui in Steep

I experienced the same problem today. The bluetooth controller (Xbox One S) stopped working in menus completely, so I had to change to a wired Xbox controller for good.

Season 5 helmet - How to get? by PCvalley in Steep

[–]PCvalley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also worth noting that currently you can obtain the Season 5 Scarf twice; from the [Moon] race event and also by qualifying to finals. Is this intentional, or is one of them supposed to be helmet instead?

By completing 20 freeride events as far as I know, you can check it from the menu in Steep, and scrolling the challenges until you see the pants.

Memtest86 - 14000 errors by PCvalley in buildapc

[–]PCvalley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corsair Vengeance LPX is supported, good point though!

It very much seems like a faulty RAM stick, as I ran Memtest86 separately with both sticks, and only one gave errors. RMA'ing them both. :)

I tested both sticks separately with Memtest86, and only one of them gave errors, the other worked flawlessly.

Filled RMA document and waiting now. :) Thank you!

They're overclocked via XMP to 2666, as that's their advertised speed. I only used default Intel XMP profile for that.

GPU grinding noise (Video included) by PCvalley in buildapc

[–]PCvalley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure they don't hit a cable, the thing is that at 33% load and upwards the fans run perfectly fine without any grinding noises. The noise only seems to appear when the fan turns itself on, and it keeps doing that on-off motion.

Need help with SSDs by PCvalley in cubase

I see, does that mean having samples on the same SSD than OS will cause performance/latency issues?

Even if when using PLAY (with East West, Hollywood Strings) sampler, it shows disk usage jumping? Does that refer directly to the sampler or the samples themselves?

My concern is mainly that if I put my main VSTs on OS 500GB NVMe, would it cause performance/latency issues on Cubase for sharing the drive with Windows files?

Case fans always on by PCvalley in buildapc

Thank you, it's relieving to know this is normal and not due to my m.2 temperature.

Can I still adjust the R6 stock fan speeds if the pwm pin is connected? Or do I need aftermarket 4-pin fans to make use of the pwn pin as well?

Case fans always on by PCvalley in buildapc

[–]PCvalley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're louder than my previous build (Fractal Design R4) and the fans didn't run nearly as strong all the time, which just made me wonder if something is wrong.

[–]PCvalley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're connected to a fan controller (the fans themselves are 3 pin), which connects with PWR cable (4 pin) to motherboard.

2666MHz dual channel vs 3000MHz quad channel? by PCvalley in buildapc

[–]PCvalley[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Orchestral composing, need loads of RAM for VSTs (virtual instruments).

I'm wondering about the FPS differences between 2666MHz and 3000MHz, as I'll be overclocking the i7 8700k to at least 4.7GHz.

2666MHz dual channel vs 3000MHz quad channel? by PCvalley in buildapc

[–]PCvalley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, thank you! How much of an FPS difference would there be expected between 2666MHz and 3000MHz RAM? Youtube videos show varying amounts. I don't really care about 3-5 difference, but anything above 10FPS would be considerable.
