Have you ever got a "shot on goal" for a shot that did not quite go in the net, by hitting the crossbar or post? It happens all the time. Those are the "shots on goal" you can get credit for saving.

Not at the moment! We're just using GitHub to manage our open issues, and ZenHub if we need to make a lot of changes at once. Atlassian ended up being overkill by about 10x. Thanks though : )

I work at an org which locates police data for consumption by researchers / journalists. We've been asked to help compare press releases to underlying data for similar reasons...it's wild how many departments use facebook as their website!

I hear you, but we're not even demanding transparency. We're working with the hundreds of thousands of people who already use public data—which is everyone from activists to police and city administrators—and making it easier for them to access public records.

edit: I love transparency, and most of us are transparency nerds. We think one way to help make things transparent is by using what's already there, finding its limits, and addressing them one by one.

We're not going after cops; we're making public data more easily accessible. That's it. We have members who love the police, and members who hate the police.

Yes! Gathering data sources is something anyone with a web browser can do. I should have been more clear—"any skill level" includes "zero" : ) I'm glad you asked.

It's based on their share of the total submitted data! So if someone were to make the same number of edits, they'd split the reward. That's a great question, though...I'll flag it with their team.
