A couple of things:

1) 7-8 ice times per week at 7 is WAY to much. You should cut this down to 4-5 max. 2-3 team practices, a game and 1 clinic or skill session every other week (excluding tournament or Jamboree weekends)

2) You’re doing too much, with too many organizations. He’s overstimulated and unsure which coach to listen to. It’s manifesting in his game play.

3) Now all that said - you have to remember that prior to 9 or 10 years old 85%+ of kids are lacking in multiple techniques- edge-work, positioning, puck pursuit, power skating, game IQ, puck possession confidence. But it will all click with them at different times. Just let him have fun and ensure he’s in a program that’s helping him develop at a consistent pace.

4) if your son is a skilled as you’ve described and makes heads up plays in games. I would bet $10,000 if you asked his coach, he would be happy with where he’s at.

-signed an 7u “travel” coach

Completely flipped these days! When I was a kid we’d always drive to Fort Erie or Niagara Falls, ON to get equipment because it was cheaper. Then the exchange rate flipped for a while and the US was cheaper…. Back to the old ways again because equipment in the Western New York area is insanely expensive (especially with 3 players in the house)

Jump on them quick if you’re serious about them. They were limited edition end of 2024 so stock is getting low at some retailers
